I am finishing up the restoration on my 1972 Z-27 LS-3 SS396 Camaro amd I need a little help. I have known this car for well over 30 years before I got it but I am baffled on a couple of things. I have had and looked a many many 72 LS-3 engines but I need some engine shots of the valve covers. This is a 100% born with engine, trans, and rear car that has never been modifyed in any way. The other 72 LS-3's in Chevelle's and so on that I have seen all have indiviual plug wire retainers on the valve covers. This car built 11-71 has a very unique set of painted valve covers. The plug wire stands are only 1 and 3/4 tall verus the normal 4 inch , and are spotwelded as factoryand forward of every other valve cover that I have seen and the zillion I have upstairs. The cap is the 71 twist in style. I cant see anyone changing and putting another set of painted covers on it. I sent picts to Jeff Dotter and he agreed very special. I just wanted to see if anyone else had ever viewed an original LS-3 Camaro SS and noticed the difference. I am putting them back on but just wanted some input. The other item is the grille, it is argent with the original emblem. The car is original sheetmatal never hit but my question is did these cars follow the 69 black cars with a silver grille on a very dark car or was it a screw up from new. The car is Midnight Bronze with a Custom interior. The grille is very old no edevince of being changed surround trim and bolt impressions original. Any ideas' on it. Midnight Bronze replaced Black and is a very drk color. Thanks in advance.
