I need some help. I have a buddy of mine looking to repaint a 1969 small block Nova back to original 52 Garnet Red. All the new reds seem too red. Can anyone help with the mixture/paint type to match the original Chevrolet Garnet Red of the past.
Thanks,
Jeff

Hi Jeff, go to your local DuPont jobber and ask for the spectrmaster book, it is a color library with a whole bunch of cards of different colors under the rainbow to choose from. if you know or have a sample of the red you need this will help. good luck Jim p.s. colors are in order so it won't be too awful bad to pick one. If this doesn't work a good painter should be able to retint the color to tone it down abit, just keep track of the formula, and spray alot of test panels until you get your desired color of garnet red. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

On my garnet red 69 camaro i used the R&M-BASF Diamont system - Basecoat/Clearcoat. Excellent results. Heres a few pics taken during restoration.
