I need help concerning the 52 Garnet Red Chevy color for a 1969 Nova. Does anyone have the right GM formula versus the fire engine red color that seems to be out there? How do I get as close to original as possible?

Thanks Sammy
I won't be much help with that, best bet would be to match to the original paint if there is any http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif Like the underside of the trunk.
I did this a few years ago with 66 Regal Red. Took a hood louver to the PPG store and my paint mix guy shot it with the ppg prophet gun and used the formula the computer came up with , perfect match.
Maybe someone else here has shot Garnet ?? Shoney ??

On my red 68 I just had some PPG single stage mixed, real real close, the trunk is perfect original and I flashed a card aginst it first, Looks great!, If you go BC it will never be the same as oem, if you are looking for a oem look your best bet is single stage. If you have any good paint on your car trunk lid inside door, any major paint supplier can scan it. But PPG does have mix color for your code, as most major brands of paint. If your looking for bc coat you will need to scan it the mix codes are off they were never bc coat.

I also would consider using single stage since the Garnet red is a solid color, problem is alot of painters don't like to use it http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
I always hate lookin at BC CC under flourescent lights http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

We're pretty close on 70 Cranberry red, but nothing on Garnet. If you can find a jobber that can still mix laquer, have him mix you a pint, and spray it out as a guide to scan off for bc/cc. Dupont Centari if mixed from the old formula can work also. Generally solids take less tweaking, but I'm not the painter. I just hang the sheetmetal. Pm JustBadJoe. He shoots the color.

Here's my Garnet Red convert next to my nephew's original paint coupe. Let me tell ya, it's a tough color to get right... and no, I don't think mine is exactly right either!

Since you like the color of my Garnet Red convertible above, I took a piece of the car (since the weather still sucks) to a paint supply shop the other day and they matched the color of my car to one of their charts as close as possible. The code they gave me is: Glasurit 8517M or BASF 225050. I'm not a paint guy, so don't ask me what that means.
I should point out that up-close my convertible looks much darker than my nephew's faded but original paint coupe... but from twenty feet (as in the photo above) the cars look very similar. Likewise, my convetible is a few shades darker than the 1969 dealer album paint chip, but even that chip could have faded over the years. I originally matched my convertible's paint from an original paint garnet red Z28 from paint under the trunk weatherstrip.
If you need a different code, let me know and I'll either give you the paint supply guy's name/number or call him to get what info you need.
Hope that helps!
