A long-time buddy owns an auto repair shop near me. For years I've been going there every Saturday morning to help out, work on my own stuff, or just hang out.

The owner is too busy to work on his own stuff, so I end up working on his cars. I've reassembled a dark blue '67 Malibu (which he sold after I finished it http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif ), his daughter's '65 Mustang fastback, and his '70 El Camino. My next project is his son's '67 race car.

What started out as quarter, floor replacement, and paint job turned into taking the body off the frame, replacing almost all of the sheet metal, and spraying a pretty decent paint job. All of this was done by someone else.

I purposely didn't call this a frame-off restoration, because originality is not a goal with this one. I don't exactly agree with the direction they want to take this car, but then again, it isn't mine.

I took these pictures the same day we pulled that patina '69 Kingswood Estate out of the woods.

Original colors were Emerald Turquoise with a matching bench seat interior. I recovered the seats with reproduction covers YEARS ago. In the upcoming months, I hope to install that interior in this car.

Someone did a pretty good job hanging sheet metal on this car.

Last week, 1/31, we towed it back to his shop and dropped it in my bay.

A broken patio table will be my work bench.

I wish the painter sprayed in here too.

While waiting on a huge order to arrive, I'll put the dash back together.

NOT looking forward to putting a headliner in!

Now you know this Chevelle's humble beginnings.

Might have some more pics of tomorrow's progress.

'67 El Camino has been in pieces for years. This WAS in my bay for the past 4 months, but it's not ready for me yet. It'll sit in a barn until its ready for paint.

It's an original white truck with power windows and a blue bucket seat interior. But the back half was VERY rusty, so it was back-halved. A local guy, Tom Brush, just finished tubbing it, installing that roll bar, and machining the engine plate.

Needs some more body work then it'll be ready for paint. Some blown big block will go in it, he has a 427 and 2 454's to pick from.

I've got more pics of it somewhere. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hmmm.gif Don't know if I'll still be living here to put that one back together.

Forgot my camera today. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Didn't really do anything worth taking pics of, just prepared some stuff for the headliner install.

I'll be cussing a lot that day. I HATE installing headliners.

Reassembly is not progressing with this car as I had hoped. Can't install the new headliner until one of those plastic headliner bow clips arrives! Talk about hard to find! Plus we can't find the box of misc bolts, screws, and hardware I need to put the dash and the interior back together. Not the first time I've had to work like this, but we'll get it done sooner or later. But spring and summer car coming and I won't be going up to the shop as frequently.

Today, I just prepped and refinished some headlight buckets and the washer tank bracket. I'm STILL waiting for turquoise paint for the steering column. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Anyway, it was so warm outside today, we opened all the doors, did what we could, then washed our daily drivers.

Here's some of the more interesting stuff in the shop today.

'69 Chevelle and '69 Cutlass S! All are customers' rides.

http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm200/OneWayStreet_album/1967%20Malibu%20Project/307002.jpg
The Cutlass is getting a new intake and carb.

This one has some serious bottom end noise and oil pressure issues.

I'm in a holding pattern, waiting on some parts. Some stuff arrived damaged. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

This is a neat truck, just needs some TLC, air in the RF tire, and some paint.

Hope I can get something major done next Saturday.

I got a "little" done on the '67 today, but not much. I'm waiting for ONE stupid headliner bow clip so I can install the headliner. The idiots that sent the weatherstrip order sent '72 Chevelle stuff, not '67 Chevelle stuff! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif An argument has ensued. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsdown.gif

So this '67 will probably be a spring, summer, fall, and winter 2010 project the way things are going right now.

But in the mean time, we did have a small, mini-car show today.

The orange '69 Chevelle and silver '69 Cutlass have been seen before in earlier posts. The '70 is Jay's car, and the ZO6 belongs to a friend named Wayne. Jay and Wayne brought their cars out to blow out the cob webs and clean them up for another cruising season.

Looking good Jay

This needs engine work. It will probably be a few months until this one is cruising. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I sure like that Maggie'ed Z06 and would love to do the same to my yellow one, but mine seems to get me in enough trouble the way it is. A ticket-getting machine they are.

We need to "encourage" Jay (original70, or something like that) to post up more pics of his '70! He keeps telling me he'll call me to help him post and link his pics, but the only people that call me are telemarketers. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

My encouragement isn't enough. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Wayne kept adding more and more. Now it sorta scares him to spank the car. I think he's in his 70's. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

OK..OK..What night you free this week Rick to show me this posting process? I have followed the tutorial that was posted on another thread but seem to be doing something wrong. Will also put together a little history of car and send that.

I painted the core support on the '67 today, not worth taking pics of it though.

Still waiting on lots of parts.

Since it's raining today, all of the old stuff was inside.

In for an idler arm. Finding one that fits has been a challenge, so I'm told.

This one is in for a fuel pump to carb fuel line. Tried my hand at winging one with a hand held tube bender, I failed.

I'm back at it, and the progress is SLOW!

But I did make major progress the past Saturday, 1/9. I removed the stainless roof rail channels, cleaned them up, removed the paint overspray, reinstalled them, and installed the repro weather strip. Up until then, I had only pieced together the dash and install it.

http://onewaystreet.smugmug.com/Cars/Regs-Project-Chevelle/Teal-67-17/761890042_cotP6-L.jpg

Headliner turned out like crap, but it was my first one. Picture makes it worse than it really is. Plus it was pretty cold in there that day.

Since I'm only working on it for 3-4 hours on a given Saturday, I suppose it's coming along OK. My short term goal is to complete the interior so it can be closed up. Gets very dusty in that garage.
