A simple question to the sYc Family;
If there was to be a brand new car show in the Chicago area in November 2009, with an emphasis on not only Chevys and Corvettes, but ALL makes and models of our favorite cars, what do you think would be a good name for it?

Couple of points to ponder.
1. The name needs to be short and direct.
2. It needs to not use any trademarked names.
3. It should be able to be used in a differant (or additional) markets at a later date.
4. Word(s) in the title need to be popular in searches such as google etc.
5. It needs to reflect a new beginning without forgetting the past.
I know, I know...now I'm getting picky!

Depending on where it would be held...a lot of dates "sell out" years ahead....also, most convention centers will not run similar shows close together...
Looking at the Donald Stephens center
Available dates after July for 2009 are:
August 15-16
September 13-14
September 19-20
September 26-27
October 10-11
October 31-Nov. 1
It still shows that Vettefest is at the center...

Curious how Bob would use the ALL the square footage at Donald Stephens center, IF show was opened to ALL brands of Classic American muscle.
Given how the show has so many misc Corvettes, taking up ??? percent of the floor.....and then the misc Chevy brands. The swap meet vendors take up the rest.
How do you propose cutting back on Vettes and Chevys to accomodate everybody else????????

Thanks to everyone for the fedback and idea's. I'll try to answer all the questions and throw some stuff back out there.
Dates have been secured and they are familiar; November 21-22, 2009.
The reasoning behind this is simple. We dont want to be too early, as drawing a good spectator base is crucial. If we are too early, (as in Sep/Oct), we risk a too warm situation, where many people prefer to take advantage of the last few decent weather days in the Chicago area. The dates fall just after SEMA, which generates a ton of car related interest, but ahead of the Holiday season, which we can't compete with. These dates have proven to work, as seen by the huge differance in spectator participation between the former Fall and Spring events in the Chicago area. It seems like the mid November dates kind of close out the car season for most of us who live in the midwest.

This is an excellent question. The emphasis will continue to be on Quality and not Quantity.
I opened the door to this by requiring photos with the entries, which the previous owners never did. With each show, I was able to "raise the bar" by turning away entries that had been in the show multiple times and also returning sub-par entrants.
With the help of the sYc membership, I was able to do this, by replacing many of the daily driver type cars with vehicles recruited and invited. The special showcase displays are an example of this transition. By utillizing the talent and contacts of recognized and respected enthusiats, we plan to continue this momentum.
Bottom line, a check and an entry fee will not necessarily get a car into the show.

"American Muscle(car)invitational"
With the option of Midwest American Muscle Invitational (M.A.M.I.)
I would avoid fest in the title
I would avoid a specific marque
I would leave it open to all american cars
And I would definately discriminate/invite/nominations/and club displays (controlled quality and variety)
I know we all love Chevy, but I only think it would be a large net gain in attendence, if we included other marques.
Chevy guys would still come and Ford/Pontiac/AMC/MOPAR etc. crowds would be all over it as they do not have a venue like this now.

I like "American Muscle(car)invitational". I like the idea of creating a more exclusive name and getting rid of the word Fest. I especially like making the name sound more like a national event than a local event.
Also, I would sure prefer the State Fairgounds location in Indy over coming to Chicago. Indy is much more centrally located for those from the south, easier to get around, etc. Also, the weather is a little bit better typically.
I was amazed at how nice this facility worked for the Mecum auction.
Thats my 2 cents.

I believe strongly the reason the show will remain in Chicago is
A) Bob Ashton lives here
B) Chicago is an area where there is a large population to draw large $$$ in gate receipts.
C) Barack Obama used to live here

E) Dan Quayle likes golf, not cars http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/scholar.gif
