About two months ago, a friend of mine tells me about a retired schoolteacher that wants to sell his Corvette. Do I have any interest? Sure I do so, off we go to meet the man at a storage facility a couple of miles South of town. The old man who owns the building opens it up and it's completely filled with cars and old signage from the local dealerships. All of the cars are covered and some have been un-moved for nearly 20 years. This one followed me home...

To finish the story, I need to get back to the storage center. Jack, the fellow who owns it, was reluctant to let us look at the other cars that were stored there. He did however, lift the cover on a 1968 Camaro that he said has been stored for 18 years and the owner has since moved away but still sends a check every month. I'll keep you posted if anybody is interested.

Regarding the 58 Corvette, it's a 230 HP 4-speed car with all of it's original drivetrain. We had to jack some cars up and put them on wheel skates to get the Corvette out in the open but, it started relatively easily. The undercarriage is in beautiful condition and you can still see the raw fiberglass and the frame is great. Ed

Thanks! I live in less than 1,000 sq. feet but, I have two buildings over 10,000 sq. feet for my cars. As it should be! Except the furnaces and forced air are better in the garges than the old boiler in my house. Ed

I grew up in Chicago and my place probably would have been out of reach (financially) there. That's why I moved to Indiana. Extremely nice, down-to-earth people, plenty of country roads, and very low cost of living. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif Ed

Charley:

As they say out here in Indiana, "that guy's aweful proud of those signs", meaning he's going to want a lot for them. I asked ole' Jack that if I bought the Vette could I have my pick of the signs and he didn't even smile. But, I plan to get back in there and I'll let you know if I make any progress. The coolest ones were from Reeg Pontiac in the center of town. They're an old brick dealership with only room for three cars in the showroom. And they're still in business doing mostly service (3 bay shop). Ed

I'm sure you would like it here in Indiana. Most of the people are of German descent and most are machinists and farmers. Let me know if you want to visit. Ed
