Reading the previous "there still out there" post inspired me to share my latest find (more like it found me). This isn't a super car (see attached), but it's kind of a neat story. About a year ago a local resident asked me if I "take care of old cars". I responded by telling the lady that I do restore old cars and she told me that she had a 1968 442 that she bought new in the summer of '68 when she graduated from a local college. She and her husband kept it all of these years in their garage and now she was moving into an apartment (her husband passed away last year). I found the car stacked high with boxes on one side of her two car garage. It has the original drive train and there was very little rust. The paint, however was very tired. I purchased the car and proceded to disassemble it enough to give it the paint job that it deserved. It's going back together now - I have a lot of photos of the car as it was disassembled. Automatic, 442, A/C, yellow with a black interior and a factory white top. I know that it's hard to believe that this car stayed hidden for all of these years, but I have the original owner's phone number for any "doubting Thomases" out there!

It would be great to go back and give the Lady a ride in her old car. Let her see it is alive again.
Always been a fan of that color...and on a A-body cvt. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/drool.gif
Nice find!

That's the plan Charlie - we're gonna go get an ice cream as soon as we get some nice weather (gotta take my wife along too though!).

Bruce, another great find. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif
While we're on the subject, here is a picture of a time capsule that was opened today. I posted this pic in the Rotting Cars thread last year, but today it changed hands.

1932 3 window coupe, with a rumble seat and a sun roof. Parked in this garage in '59, it has not moved since.
More to follow on Monday. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif
look forward to seeing more of it from you

Here's an update on the restoration of the 1968 442 that I bought from the original owner a while ago. Charlie suggested that I drive it back over to the seller and take her for a ride in it when it was completed. Well, she was thrilled with the car (she actually cried), and her grandchildren think that she's the coolest grandma in town!

Bergy, looks great. Nice find.
As an FYI, it looks like your 442 did not originally come with the W36 stripes, as the placement of the "442" on the door was put in a different location. Check the pic below for measurements.

In any event, still a nice car. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif Always happy to see a '68 442 on here. Hope to have mine done soon.

Thanks for the info - you're correct, my car didn't come with the stripes. I was wondering why the "442" numbers seemed to be in the wrong location on the original factory fender! You've cleared up the mystery. Thanks again. Bergy

It really makes no sense why the factory changed the location. It's not as if the non-stripe "442" is centrally located on the fender. I wouldn't be surprised if some left the factory with the stripe and the non-stripe badge location.
Hope to see your car in person someday. Maybe if I ever bring mine out here from AZ...
