I JUST BOUGHT A 1986 IROC WITH 82 MILES WITH THE WINDOW STICKER STILL ON THE WINDOW- THIS SHOULD LET ME KNOW WHAT ONE IS WORTH- THE 1986 IS A TUNE PORT 305- RUNNS LIKE A 350

I've always thought that all IROCS had Tuned Port engines in them. What's the deal? Anyone?

Base engine for '85 was an LG4 carb'd 305, which this black auction car has.
Next step up was a 190 HP L69 carb'd 305. It is very noticeable when the hood is opened because it features a dual snorkel air cleaner assembly.
Next step up was the 215 HP LB9 305 TPI.
Any TPI engine was always an extra cost bump for IROC's.
I always thought that IROC Zs had the 305 tpi motor as standard equipment too. Then the 350s came in 87.

Wow, pretty good chance thats the lowest mile IROC on the planet.
I think the last year for the carb was '86, then after that the TBI engine was standard. Those base engines were mutts thats for sure.

I may be off in my recallection, but I thought the 5 speed manuals came with the caburated 305 H.O. only. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

First year for tuned port was '85.
'85 and '86 all TPI's received the 700R4 MXO automatic.
"Rumor" has it some very late '86's got the L98 350 TPI.
But officially the L98 350 TPI came out in '87 and, throughout the remainder of the 3rd gen run, only came with an automatic.
'87 was the first year a 5 speed manual was available with the LB9 305 TPI and was available throughout the remainder of the 3rd gen run.
IIRC, a carb'd 305 was available up to early '88, then a throttle body injected 305 became standard, engine code E. Can't remember the RPO.
