OK, here's the story. This older fellow Ed,(he's 77) that I see in the locker room at the health center that I work out at told me about a year ago that he had this old car in his garage. This was after we talked about my car.
Turns out that he parked this '32 Ford coupe in the garage of his then new house back in 1959. He bought the car in 1951 with the usual plans to fix it up, but it sat in his mom's barn until he moved it to the new house.
As I mentioned before in another thread, he's a pretty private kind of guy. It took me six months of proding and pleading just to get him to open the garage door just to take a few pictures, then he closed the door. And no, it's not for sale. He told me that I was the first person to see this car since he put it away. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
Last week at our Camaro club meeting, one of my friends asked me about this car, just in passing. He owns a restoration shop here in town. Then the planets aligned for him. The very next day, when I ran into old Ed in the locker room, he asked me if I could help him sell the car. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif It was time to clean out the yard, and he was firm on his price. So I called Dave at his shop and asked him if wanted to take a look at it. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif
The deal was done on a handshake, and now the fun begins.
Fifty years of crud to clean out, just to start with.

When you open a time capsule like this, you never know what you might find. The car is all original, and partly disassembelded. Note the 1951 tag on the windshield.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a146/ameyers215/EdsGarage008.jpg
Some rust, but repairable.

Sun roof. Also rain and snow roof as well.

A little manual labor might be required to clean up the place, and begin the extraction proccess. Note the rumble seat is still open.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a146/ameyers215/EdsGarage012.jpg

Grill is on the front seat.

Just a little bit of clutter to move out of the way. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

This is just the begining. I will post more pics as the guys dig into this. (And I do mean dig). http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif

That is a neat barn find. Bet there are some other great finds in that car, like loose coins, old magzines or papers -- if the critters didn't nest in them.

It may be the end of the week before I get back there again. Believe it or not, the house is about 3 blocks from mine, and you would never even know that there was a garage behind the house. Ed's a little camera shy, that's one of Dave's employees in the hat. If you look at the back corner on the left you can see the front fenders. Except for the original motor and trans, it's all there, somewhere. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
Included with the car is a 1960 Olds motor with tranny attached, out of a wreck that only had 2000+ miles on it. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
I will post more when I can. This is truely automotive archiology. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I hope you guys can keep posting pix of your find as you uncover the treasure.

Congrats on your find http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

The car will be removed this Sunday or Monday. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
No snakes to worry about, and the critters will just have to find new digs. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif
There are some rare parts that we know are burried there.
BTW, it was just plain dumb luck that this deal fell into place. No geese were chased.

What exactly is that windshield tag? Looks like "Navy Air base"? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Ed bought this car in 1951, when he got out of the Navy.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a146/ameyers215/Eds_Garage_010.jpg

Columbus has a huge military depot, which includes a Naval
Reserve base. Very small, but still very Naval. Every car entering the depot requires some sort of ID on it. Still true today.

from Port Columbus Airport web page

1942
A Naval Air Facility was established at Port Columbus. The Navy erected several buildings, lengthened the runways and enlarged the ramp facilities.

Could not find much else, but there was a Naval Air Station there. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

Thanks Andy and Mike. Nice history. It's a shame the glass is bad, nothing cooler than a 58 year old parking permit sticker http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/headbang.gif

This reminds me of the 1941 Ford Convert. That my dad bought from the original owners about 1962. It is still sitting in the garage @ my mom's where it has not moved since then. Dad died in 1999 and I sold my share of the car to my brother who never did anything with it. He just sold the car to my sister and her other half. I have my fingers crossed. What is neat about that car is that the original owner was a traveling salesman and wanted something that "moved". It still has all of the speed parts that he put on it back in the day. Edelbrock alumn heads, Offy intake, dual Strombergs, etc.... and I can't forget about the Columbia 2 speed rear. My sister claims that they are going to do the car right in a couple of years.

Best of luck with the time capsul. They are still out there.

Well, it took a while, but the deed is done. I post a whole bunch of pics on the H.A.M.B. (That's Hoakey Ass Message Board, for guys like me who had no idea what that meant). Nice folks, as long as you avoid mentioning the word "Camaro".
