I have looked at this site for a while and always thought it was beneficial. Here is a car i just worked a sweatheart deal from my uncle. It is certified from Joel in 2000 as a Phase III. 20K original miles. Too fun to drive, but will be asking people questions in the future, so good to at least introduce myself.

Here is the history from what i can remember that my uncle has told me. I should get him on here to verify, i am sure his story would be better than mine, but here i go....
The car was sold in 3-31-69, at least this is the build sheet or bill of lading shows, not up to terms 100% as to what is what, but it was bought by a person in Elyria, OH by a younger person that possibly put it in his mothers name. I have the original pop, and this is a guess by me since the last names are the same one the pop and build sheet, but first names are different. Supposivly the younger person died, she kept the car for some time in which a dealer found it and bought it. This person mainly dealt with rolls, bently, etc and did not want to keep it. He put it in hemmings around 1983 as just a 427 camaro. At that time it had around 8K miles a believe. My uncle knew that if this was a true 427, possibly there was something special about it. Long story short, he bought it, but the dealer did not say that it was a BM for sure. Which is rare these days being honest since there are so many clones etc passing as the real deal. My uncle was a car nut and basically kept it and showed it locally for a while. I have always been into cars, so he let work something out that will keep the car in the family. He (my uncle) had it certified by Joel in 2000 and i have the certificate of authenticity. It is the original paint color and original paint on 95% of the car. Black is a pretty color, but a pain to keep clean.
From what i can read and decifer from the build sheet, the following was done
G5 427 conversion (PHIII)
hurst w/ T handle
air lifts
wood wheel
side exhaust
PHIII striping
tap cat kit
inglewood tires
radius rear fenderwall
ignition package
high rpm shutoff
M22 trans
hurst shifter
traction bars
dual fuel pump
stinger hood
It does have the RS/SS package, with consol
there might be more, but i came from a firebird backgound so there is much to learn!

Thanks! Not enough caffeene this morning. OK, some comments etc on other questions: I actually live in Franklin, PA which is near the I-80 and I-79 interchange. Rural PA to be generic. As for putting the car in the supercar, it would be fun and if my schedule isnt filled i think i will try. However, one of the reasons i posted my car on here is to get the car known out there. I would be pessimistic and leary myself if a rare car showed up, so if there are any questions on this please let me know. Just look at ebay and others for cars passing off as the real thing. Also the last thing i want to do is just try and barge in on a groups agenda. I like cars just like everyone here, so if it just stays here that is great. But I also believe i am too late for 2009, but maybe 2010. I briefly read the requirement for it, so i dont know if it is an invite only, or send the application and see.
Anyway, as always i appreciate all the help and comments. I literally just got this in my garage less than a week ago, so it is going ot take a little to get up to speed for questions i have. But feel free to ask any on my end, i want to make sure that if i do bring this to IL, that everyone is comfortable that this is a real one. That last thing this group would want would be an imposter. Just taking the other sides view!

Hope to see you there. Untill that first time you will not understand the fun factor level.

Mike http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif
Mike, first..looks like a really neat car, with all of the B/M goodies.
I will try an answer your questions, if I miss something, feel free to ask.
The Annual Supercar Reunion has no deadline for entry. As we get closer, we will have a "scheduled to attend" thread, but that is not etched in concrete, just a way to give folks an idea of what is coming. If you do decide to attend SCR12 (this year), we would love to know in advance, but not required. One of the neat things about the reunion is there are always a few surprises show up.
It is an open show. However, as they have done with you, members will extend an invitation to new comers, inviting them to attend the SCR, and other sYc events. Our goal with the SCR is to treat everyone the same, each paying the same entry fee and no judging, with everyone receiving the same participation award. The SCR is about hanging out friends, meeting new ones, and enjoying some of the rarest, and coolest cars in the world.
You speak of imposters, yes, we have fell victim to that. As in life, you live and learn, but in the long one, once is became apparent they were a fraud, they became the big loser. They may get their two minutes of fame, but they then become outcasts in the hobby.
Keep posting pictures, and I hope you can join us Labor Day 2009 in Collinsville.
BTW, your car would sure look neat lined up nest to other B/M cars at the track. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

The only thing I could add to that would be M22Mike's statement about the "Fun Factor". Guaranteed to have more smiles per hour than anywhere else in the country that weekend.
Plus, there's usually a good contingent from your part of the country heading out this way. Safety in numbers as you travel. Hope you can make it.

I agree with the fun factor, there is no denying that! I am going to sign up as a member as well as sign up for the SCR. I cant promise anything since around that time we were planning a family vacation. I would like to get my dad and uncle to go as well. Becoming a member is the least i can do with all the help i have received and all the input i will be asking for in the future.

I will have to check on teh Rallys, can anyone tell if it was on option on the sales sheet? As for the above question, I would be guessing if i answered that. But i thought they were ordered with the 396...but again each one seems different so again i am passing this to someone more informative.

Can you post a shot of the trim tag ? Or check to see if there is a X66 or X22 code there. My guess it's X22, assuming the car always had the Z21 brigt trim.

Bill Krech's Inglewood Tire Co. was one of those early California companies that fueled the hot rod movement with specialty tires. They were a charter member helping to found SEMA.
They supplied midget racers with tires in the forties and made those wide whitewall recap slicks you remember from the early sixties. They were M/T's competition on those L 60's and such we all loved back in the late sixties. I don't think they have been in business for quite some time.

I can only imagine how restrictive that exhaust system is...it kills horsepower, but it looks so nice! I think you would wet yourself with the increase in power if you ran out through open headers... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif
As you will notice, I have removed several pictures from this thread, mostly of Motion paperwork. This was done per the owner's request, fearing that it might be used to build, and then "document" another Motion car. As much as I hate to see the photos gone, I have to agree.

I would never have a problem with the guys here that love the cars with showing or taking pictures of whatever is asked, it is the ones that have alternative motives for deception that myself and everyone has issues with. Since it is a public site you just cant determine what could possibly be done with the information. Sorry i had to do this, but i think it is the safest. Thanks for everyone input! I have been in Franklin and Oil City many times for work, actually a beautiful area in the summer and fall.

I have sent in the application for the Carlisle show in June to have this car judged in the "Vintage Legend" class. If any of you are heading there, hope to see you and meet you there. I have alot to learn about these cars, so it will be fun and a good learning experience! I still have some some work to do to get it ready, but if i dont do it now, who knows when it will ever get done. Would love to go to SCR and the others, but that would have to be planned a year in advance but will get there someday! I am cheating since this is the closest event.

Astock, i was told by my uncle that it originally had Cragar SS wheels on it, so started the process to find a set. By chance, can you see, or can anyone see if they can find pics of this car in the 70's or at least prior to 1983. Also, the person that bought the car last name was Lapp, can you or anyone fill in the owner history after that? I thought there was either two or three owners before my uncle got it. Any help is alwasy appreciated! Actually i head to Cleveland rather often, so if you can make an introduction, it would be great as well.
Thanks Mike

http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/scholar.gifMy 65 Chevelle had mud flaps on it, for what I guess was over thirty years. Definetly a reason for lack of rust in quarters and fenders. I did take them off because the car no longer sees puddles or rain.
I would second leaving them on this Camaro in the case of the sidepipes.

Thanks for all the compliments. The Torque-Thrusts are definately a great wheel and may consider it. But cant go wrong with the Cragars as well. Trying to put together a complete set. My uncle mentioned before that that mud flaps really helped with the "road rash" so maybe in hindsight i was lucky he did since the original paint is still in great shape. If any of you are going to carlisle, please stop by and say hello. I believe i will be in building "Y" from Thursday to Sunday. I will be heading to the other building with all the other great cars sometime and will do the same.

I've always thought Motion cars could be a bit "over-the-top" (Example: that famous Mexican Ralley Green '69 Camaro), but this black one trimmed in red is a beautiful example of a bad machine. Driving that car in 1969 had to be the equivalent of driving a Lamborghini or similar exotic today. It would take a VERY serious machine back then, short of an all drag car, to give this thing a run for it's money. I know people like to trash talk street racing, but that was the sole purpose of this car. I bet it was good to be the king with this car!

Was trying to get the type of wheels that was supposed to have come with the car. My uncle said that this was the type that was on the car before he got it, but they were too far gone. Would be nice to have a picture to verify, but dont. But i always liked the cragars so at least a change of look. Got close, think the front are '71 and the back are maybe a year or two older. Would have been nice to get '69 dated, but probably a very hard thing to find. Still looking for a set of 8" rear, got 7" now. OK for now, but got to use what i can find! Had to get the car on the road sometime this year!

Thanks,

I steel wooled the back of one of the spokes and uncovered a 1964 date. Is that possible or is it just a copyright date?

The ones I have are dated on the steel wheel, inside where you can't see with a tire mounted. Let me see if I can post a picture.

The wheels still have nice tires on them. I was hoping not to dismount them. I guess I would have to for shipping anyway though. I would guess somewhere in 68 since the original owner told me he bought them new in 68. Its funny, the 15x8s he bought in 68 look great but the 14x6s for the front he bought later and they are peeling and look like crap. Both wheels were exposed to the same conditions.

m19gale / Mike,
In one of the pictures of your car it shows the placement of the Baldwin Chevy Dealership Decal. I have a 69 Z28 that came from Baldwin Chevy and my question pertain to the dealership decal. I don't know if you have the answer but you might be able to find out. Is the Baldwin Sticker Original and always located in that location for I have always wondered as to the placement of same from the dealership. Thanxs for posting the picture, which helped me out.
P.S. If you could please provide an overall picture of the rear-end I would appreciate. Because I'm only assuming the deal was placed on the driver side but not 100% sure from the picture.

I have not been the best with keeping up, especially with the cold weather everyone up north had...
I will post some new pics shortly, have to start getting it ready for spring.
But the sticker was on the drive side and will send pics.

This car has been so nicely preserved, right down to the original trunk labels! I always thought it was cool how they used half of the 68 Impala trunk emblem for the tail panel and sometimes on the front fenders.

That has got to be one of the finest original examples of a Motion Camaro, and being a Phase III is beyond cool. Love that car.
