Still gathering parts....it never ends....Who sells the best (most correct)multi-leaf spring for my car...also how about the front coil springs??? I doubt it is even listed in the parts books...has anyone used a certain spring with the ZL-1 motor?? How about a pic of the stance?? I want it to look right...
Thanks, Max

Jim Stubbing at HeartBeat City in Michigan may have what you need. He is the spring man I understand. Made in America too! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

max, when I did my 69 ZL-1 Camaro and my 69 ZL-1 Chevelle..both times I used a small block with A/C spring..both were right on the money

Let me put my .02 in re: HBC springs. I have a Iron block/Iron Head COPO clone with Turbo 400. Hooker Headers, No smog........everything else normal, stock type parts.
Bought "correct coils and leafs from HBC.....you can see below that car sat too low, to the point that tires rubbed whl houses when turning.
"We" then replaced the HBC springs with Ron Norman's springs and as you can SEE, the car sits a tad high. I drove car almost 1000 miles on three legs of 2005 HOT ROD Power Tour and also to/from Fred Gibb Show same year. Car never did settle down.....
I still want the car to sit right. I've now heard that some people use a certain MOOG spring....or maybe it was Eaton. Maybe if I change it another 2 or 3 times I can find what I need?????
Jim S and Ron N may be spring gods to some people, but I didnt find that in my case.

-----Chuck,,,I have heard the same thing about some of the older springs that HBC used to supply. As far as leaf-springs go the ones he supplies now are excellent for judging and seem to me to be exactly the right height. Cant answer for the fronts as I re-used the old ones on the Z I am finishing up.......Bill S

Chuck,
What size of tires are you running on the 8"s? 235 60s?
Max,
As I recall Moog had coil spring charts at one time that listed the length of the spring (extended), size of the wire used and spring rate. If you could find that info for the springs you have already used, you might be able to find something in between those values that would get you the height you want. Just a suggestion.
I have always used Moog springs with good success.
Good luck.

------Thought about this after my last post. I sound like an HBC pimp (http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif). Let me assure you that isnt the case. However, I would think that since Jim has had more than one restored ZL1 it would pay to give him a call. Either him or Scott Tieman as Scott did the restos. I dont have Scotts # here but someone on the board certainly should..........Bill S
