Real nice car !
I had a blue 1975 Mustang MPG as my daily driver for five years. Must have bought it around 1980. The lack of horsepower made it real hard to burn rubber, so I had another trick I found out by coincidence. Having changed brakeshoes in the rearend, when I hit the brakes hard at hi speed, the reartires locked up and produced a large cloud of smoke http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif. Canīt remember what tires I used, but people seeing it usually thought I made a burnout. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif
Those were the days !

I remember my cousin bought one of these brand new in the spring of 76 and it really was a fun lil car that got great gas mileage.

It draws a lot of attention and is a cheap collector car that everyone loves to talk about.

If you look at his other items (cars) for sale on Ebay, also here in this section of our board, and also his Ebay feedback you can see he sells vehicles.

How many cars here are listed by dealers? So what?
How many cars here sell for less than the price offered??? So what?
Geeez, cut this guy some slack will ya...

First off, Farah didn't drive the coupe ( it was a V8 Ghia), Jaclyn Smith did

Kate Jackson drove the "Orange Cooler" Pinto ( is that color gonna raise someone's neck hair?)
and Farrah drove the Cobra.

Not just Mustangs, but all American made cars, and most of the imports as well. Anyone have the old Road & Track article from 1976 entitled something like "Fastest American Made Car" If I remember correctly (and I always do until someone proves me wrong!!), the fastest "car" was almost a Chevy truck with a 454. Corvette was fastest, but only managed about 125 or 126 on the top end. The truck was right around 120. Also tested were a Plymouth (I think a Duster) with a 340 or 360 and a Mustang II (i.e. Pinto II) with a 302. There was one other car, but can't remember off the top of my head. Each one was the fastest car available from the maker. Mustang II was able to clock an incredibly anemic 105 mph. I think you can get a modern Ford Focus faster than that.
I really think it was the uber-anemic cars of the mid 70's that fueled the Muscle Car craze. By 1977 we all wanted to find a Muscle Car to hold on to, thinking that Detroit would never again build a high performance machine. All the magazines pined for the old days and assured us that they were "gone forever". Guess they were wrong. Look at some of the incredible performance machines available today. Hopefully the government won't figure out another way to kill performance this time around.
Oh yeah, congrats on the sale. Neat car in its own right. Sorry to hijack your thread.

Lynn, interesting recap of the mid-to-late 70's performance situation. I believe the car you are omitting is the Trans Am, which was really the only car at that point beyond the 'Vette that flew the performance banner for GM.

It's not a bikini but it's the most famous shot of her in a swim suit that I remember. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif I can recall people saying that she would not wear a bikini because she had a scar from her appendix surgery. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

I think you are correct. 1976 there was no Z, but the Trans Am (such as it was, unable to out run a 454 Chev. pick up) at least made a stab at performance. Hard to believe the cars were that anemic.
Have to go check out my old mags, but am pretty sure I don't have that one. I was thinking it was Road and Track, but given the state of my memory, guess it could have been Car & Driver or even Motor Trend. Almost certain the year was 1976.

Yeah, I think it was Road and Track. The whole thing about the T/A was that it handled AND accelerated. And yes, while you wouldn't confuse the thrust from a mid 70's T/A with an LS6 Chevelle, (and I do still own one of each, so I can attest to this), the T/A stood out in a sea of overweight Dodge Chargers, Camaro Type LTs, Mustang IIs and over-bumpered 260/280Zs.

And by 78 the fastest vehicle was indeed a pickup. The Lil Red.
