we are driving slow in the parking lot until he gets used to the extra pedal, the lever thing between the seats, no power steering and no power brakes.
the camera really pisses him off. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

In about 1985 I pulled into a Nissan dealership by the PIT airport to pick up a part for my buddies Datsun pickup, I was driving my 72 Camaro, immediately a salesman descended on me telling me I needed to drive a Z car (Nissan) and I would never want to drive that old Camaro again! So off we went, he drove it out of the lot and tryed to impress me with the car's power. When I got behind the wheel I was taking it easy when he said " you need to jump on it hard to see how great this car is" So next stop sign I pulled out real easy again when he said it again, so I nailed it and when I got to about 6k rpm I pulled second...notice I did not say I let off the gas (it did bark the tires pretty good)...needless to say he didn't have much to say the rest of the way back to the lot. And of course I didn't buy it!!! Moral of the story, never tell a kid to "give it some gas"

I don't wanna get anybody in trouble (or grounded) but it looks to me he's a little more familiar with that '65 Chevelle than Dad thinks! Like maybe after Dad goes to work or something!

I never had anything that cool to learn a manual trans on!!! Mine had manual steering and manual brakes, but it just so happened to be in a '52 Ford stake bed with a Flatty that burned more oil than gas!!!! Of course, I was 8 when I was learning and my biggest obstacles were rock outcroppings and cows!!! As I grew up, the funnest truck we had was a '61 Ford F-100 4x4 with a 3 on-the-tree! Used to make that straight 6 scream then nail 2nd. Again, never had anything cool like that to learn on!!!! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

Hay Russel, don't feel bad, my old man never owned a V8 untill I joined the Navy, he thought a Chevy 6 was the greatest thing since sliced bread.
He would let me drive the 60 VW ( all 36 hp http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif )in the empty lot next to our house, I never once had a driving lesson from him, one day after washing the Bug, he said go ahead and take it around the block. I think I was 15.
All the other kid's in our hood made fun of us cause we were the only ones without a cool car.

It's good to see some kids today get the feel of what it was like to drive these cars back in the day.I was a 17 yr. old myself when my brother showed me the ropes on my 72 Nova SS by driving around our subdivision before i could go on the road.
