Unconfirmed as of yet but word is one of the new Camaros was impounded under Ontario's 'Street Racing' law last weekend!.
With our tough new laws here any car doing more than 50 Km. (30 Mph) over the posted limit is impounded for 30 days and supposedly some 'lucky' test pilot/engineer type guy got nabbed near Peterboro' which is less than an hour of the Oshawa assembly plant..
If true, I wonder if GM can pull any strings and spring it or not?.
It's supposed to be a Silver one and I know the lockup yard where it went so will follow up w/ any more info and the Vin if possible?.

Pete,
That should be 30km (19mph) over the limit http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/scholar.gif

I watch that speedo like a Hawk now! Where I always slip up is when the limit goes from 100 down to 80 http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I live about 12 miles from Peterborough. Around here it seems that everyone in the country who complains, gets a 50 mph or even 40 kph speed limit sign put up in their area. The only way to get to town is to take the main highways...unless you have all day to get there. I'll keep an ear open regarding the Camaro. Someone will get their hands slapped http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

The law states for over 50kmh of the posted speed limit the car is impounded at roadside for 7 days your D/L is Suspended for 7 days and there is a usally a large fine (around 2 grand)
"The OPP officer who was charged with stunt driving in February is returning to provincial offences court this summer for a trial.
Det. Const. Heidi Fischer, who was clocked in her unmarked cruiser at 165 km/h on Highway 403, was charged with driving 50 km/h or more over the posted speed limit.
Fischer is set to return to court for a trial July 21 at 10 a. m."
But dont worry it catches all http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif

I haven't heard anything about the impounded car but did see a red on Chemong Road in Peterborough this evening. It appeared to be going the speed limit. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I just talked to the lad at the impound yard and he confirmed the story..
The Camaro was a silver one and the GM guy was nabbed doing 150Kph in a 70 zone (about 95Mph in a 45)..
The above 7 days impound thing is correct and it sounds like it must've been earlier the car was taken as it's already been returned to GM after staying the req'd days..
Hey Keith...get those cool BBQ pics posted here!.

That's funny, for now. I wonder how long before the states pass a law like this.

Good find!!! With my proximity to Canada (about 1700 feet) Im wondering what US citizens who get stopped for speeding in Canada can expect??? Also, how is one expected to get to thier destination???........Bill S

I dont think that the USA is as stupid as to create such a law. Common sense and judgement trump stupid rigid laws.
Going from 80 kilos to 60 kilos on deserteted roads is a tax collecting rip off. And the Cops("tax collectors") that enforce it.
