I want to know what your suggestions are for a good Street/Strip clutch setup. The car will be run on the street most of the time but will also be taken to the track every once in a while. I used to run Borg/Warner "Brute Force" but it is not available anymore plus it made the leg shake if traffic wasn't moving.

One suggestion was Centerforce Dual Friction but I have been hearing that if that clutch gets warm it will chatter starting out in first and reverse. I am wondering if the Centerforce II will hold up and not slip.

The motor is a big block 402, approx. 500hp, in the middle of getting a M22, 11" clutch, 3:73 gears with 28" tall tires.

Any help would be great. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

My buddy had a dual friction clutch in a '72 Z/28. The Z had a LS6 454, M22, 410s. I was the passenger to many 7,000rpm 2nd gear burnouts with that car. The clutch had NO issues, but the 8.5" 10 bolt finally did!!!!!

Centerforce dual friction is all I use.

I had the dual friction in my 91 Iroc and I did not like it. It did not hold as well I thought it would. The pedal feel was nice though although it was a hydraulic clutch.

How about a Hayes, Zoom etc.? I always ran the stock chevy pressure plate with the L88 disc about 50 years ago. Does those set-ups still work? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif I like a soft pedal.

Yes, I use the Hays street/strip set up. Clutch pedal is like stock, holds ZL-1 with M/T ET Streets.

I priced this setup on Summit and it came out to $300. Seems a little up there in price. I guess you get what you pay for.

Centerforce II was $185 and the Dual Friction is $270.

another vote for hays. I have a 510 hp / 500 ft lb 406 in my 67 and the hays holds up to it just fine. the pedal isn't hard to push either, so no sore left leg. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif don't forget to have it balanced with the flywheel before you put it in there.

Thanks for all the information. I am leaning towards Hays but also getting more information on McLeod.

I ordered my clutch and pressure plate and throwout bearing today. I went with a Hays.

Thanks to all that replied. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

I took the car out for the first time and drove it around town. The Hays Street/Strip clutch setup I bought works great. Pedal pressure is decent and it seems to grab well.

Thanks for the recommendations. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif
