I would have to agree. It is not a mistamped 8 or 9. What a lame response, IMO. It does not show up having a Chevrolet application in my books. Maybe another GM product or it may very well be a service replacement part. Here is my 74 Z/28 distributor stamping for reference:

Not marine, USCG would require a cert, all manufacturers even back from the 60's ran their own ignition systems.
