What is the story on the cracks appearing on the noses of the new Camaro after it is driven hard?

There was one at the Scottsdale Pavilions Saturday. Interesting that there was a nice 2nd & 3rd gen and a 2010 mustang next to it for comparison:

on the opposite side of the spectrum, Nissan engineers brought a bunch of their new Cubes (and one GT-R) out for people to crawl over, under and through ... :

looks like they copied the cars used in the Woody Allen Movie "Sleeper"

I think Nissan would have to pay me to drive one of those ugly things; and it would have to be a pretty hefty sum too.
All of those boxy cars look like a 2 year old designed them.

A buddy spotted a truck load of Camaros last Thursday on the Baltimore Beltway. All were red or yellow.

Camaro is not impressing me at all. Shame, cause it may be Chevies last dying breath. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Well Guess what? Chevy IS recalling the SS Camaros for that battery cable short reports Leftlane news. Too bad it's not for an Interior recall. I guess it's good they got it early

Good news from GM Canada today. The Camaro plant will be working overtime this summer to keep up with demand. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

Yep recalling ALL 2010 V-8 Camaros for a battery cable going to the starter rubbing and will cause a fire or the engine MAY START BY ITSELF!!! So much for quality control---Nows the time to look for that Salvage Camaro to build your next racecar. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

Dealers will reportedly remedy the problem by temporarily by wrapping the battery cable with insulating tape and then rerouting it to avoid damaging contact. All the components for a permanent fix that includes sturdier engine wiring harness tape will be had by May 11.

Should a short circuit occur, the vehicle could fail to start, cut off at any moment during operation, or in the worst case scenario, ignite an engine compartment fire.

I put some miles on mine today both as a driver as well as a passenger. I have purchased many new cars and I am very happy with my Camaro thus far.

GM has called me about the recall and they being very diligent in order to keep their customers satisfied.

I drove Stefano's car about 120 miles today, as a favor to him, of course. Other than waiting for the Nickey-izing to begin, the car is, in a word, fantastic! Solid, quiet inside, roomy, comfortable, very responsive & fast, and, all that on top of a very nice ride. The fit & finish is superb, and, the leather seats & the rest of the interior is of a very high quality.

Mine is supposed to be in within a couple of days, and, I can't wait to get it. The car is much more attractive in person than it is in the pictures. Walking around this car gives you a totally different impression than a Challenger. It is both shorter and lower which gives it a much sportier look. For those of you who have not been impressed, I suggest you wait until you can see one, sit in it, and, most importantly, drive one.

It has a BIG A$$ that is for sure.... J-Lo has nothin on the new Camaro design.

Plenty of Curves on the Production car. It grows on you. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

Have you driven a V8 model yet Phil? I predict it will REALLY grow on you when you do. The tailpanel width is smaller than I expected, and, the quarters do flair out to accomodate the big rear wheels & tires.

If it runs anything like a ZO-6 I guess I would be quite happy. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

A Z06 list is low 70K and the SS is low 30K. I think it's a little unfair to expect the Camaro to perform on par with the Z06.

BTW I really like the new Camaro and it stand tall against the Mustang and Challenger.

Not unfair if GM decides to build a Z/28.

As we all know, that program is dead. GM has far bigger issues to deal with at this time. I question whether there will be a convertible at this point. If you want 500plus hp your best bet is to have a car converted by Nickey or other tuners.

Many at the former GMHP division are engineering hybrid vehicles as mandated by the government. The Z28 and 556hp is a pipe dream at this point.

Exactly what I was thinking. As we all know the SS came back in 1996 as an SLP conversion. The sales numbers soon forced the factory to build them.

Given the 6-7 announced tuner conversion facilities that have announced to date I would think it may be just a bit hasty to count the Z/28 as "dead" (just yet) since with the engineering complete - the offering could be as close as strong manufacturer/converter and an agreed contract with GM to convert cars.

I have no doubt that with factory sponsorship there would be a long waiting list.

"with the engineering complete" Not quite, they never finished testing the rear in terms of durability. The engine is the one used in the CTS-V. I bet they release archived first generation Camaro records/documentation before they build the Z28. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Stefano threw me the keys to his on Friday telling me to take North Ave if I just wanted to go on a scenic tour or Randall Rd if I wanted to stretch her legs. Steve was right, Randall Rd is a nice ride......... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

I must say that it has a LOT more power then either the Challenger SRT8 or the Mustang that I drove and was a complete joy to drive. The car was more than I expected and other then some blind spots that you have to get used to it was all in all a very nice tight ride especially for the money. The best part of the drive was when a new Hi-Po Mustang passed me going in the other direction flashing his lights and giving me the thumbs up. That says a lot right there. I would also agree that it looks a lot better in person.
Thanks Steve! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

I very much agree...I finally made the time to see one in person this weekend...I thought it looked ok in pics (but couldn't say it was a winner), awesome in the Nickey concept sketches and now can confidently say a winner in person!
