Since I don't have everyones email address I thought I would post it here as well.

As many of you know Ann and I have wanted to have a small gathering at the shop with friends and their cars. The Village of Pleasant Plains is having their annual garage sale on Saturday, June 6th from 8-1 so we thought we would have a get together from around 10-3 (or later) for those interested in having a relaxing afternoon and depending on the weather. There are thousands of people who venture into town that day for the sales so we thought we would try to take advantage of the increased traffic and get a gathering of cars to help promote the new business as well as a chance to gather with friends.

We have a large parking lot that we can park the cars and one which will have a minimal amount of traffic on this day. There is also plenty of room for truck and trailer parking if needed. Other than some slightly dusty conditions depending on the winds it is a great place to get together. Ann and I may have some pop and brats available and/or you can bring your own food, chips or drinks and for those interested the Grainery Bar and Grill is directly across the street. Maybe I can even talk Ann into whipping up something like chilli or......?

Come see the shop and the now mostly finished memorabilia room (always changing) dedicated to Fred Gibb, Dick Harrell and Dennis Hartweg. So far we have many great cars planning on attending such as an unrestored 72 Hurst Olds, LS6 Chevelle, 70 Pro Stock Camaro....., 2010 Camaro, 2008 Shelby Mustang, 2009 Hemi Challenger and several other very neat Day II and restored cars as well as many drivers.

We are located approximately 18 miles west of Springfield, IL on Highway 97/125 and once in the town of Pleasant Plains we are located directly west of Casey's gas station on Route 125. The Google Earth address is 207 State Route 125 West, Pleasant Plains, IL 62677. Sometimes this does not come up correctly on Google Earth. It is the large rectangular building with the semi/trailer pulling into the lot towards the west end of town and on the norht side of Rt. 125. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Hope you can all join us. Don't be afraid to pass it along to anyone else who might like to drive their car out for the day.

If you think you can make it shoot me an email so we get an idea of how much space we will need.

Just a reminder tomorrow is the day and the response has been great. Lots of cars and people. Annie whipped up about 15 lbs of Italian beef and potatoe salad and there will be chips, beer, pop and water as well as a few other items. Lots of cars and even a few surprises. Looking forward to seeing everyone and enjoying the day as the weather will be great and we will even have either an awning or an air conditioned office for Mrs. Gibb if they are able to make it. If you have comfortable chairs, bring them or I will have many here from the Fire Department though they are hard plastic and not as compfortable. Pictures to follow (Mr. Cumby..... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif )

Ain't it the truth! Just before you left Saturday I was talking with Helen and she said EXACTLY what we all say more and more: "These old cars are great and we all enjoy them, but the CAR PEOPLE are the BEST people on Earth!"

We had a great time Saturday, despite the little late-morning shower that flew through. It didn't last fifteen minutes then the rest of the day was perfect.

Here's some of the cars in attendance.

Annie's COPO Nova #15

I finally have a chance to get on line and thank all those who showed up. The weather was very threatening and rained for a short time but regardless the diehards were there. Ann and I sincerely appreciated everyones participation especially to all the out of towners that drove the distance as this was kind of a grand opening for us in the new location. Bob and Nancy, Don and Judi as well as others stopped by almost weekly and can likely appreciate what went into getting the new shop off the ground. Special thanks to Dennis for ALL the items he has provided including all the signage. Without his help we would have been way behind. Thanks to Bob for BEING here and wearing that way cool shirt. You looked GREAT in it! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif As usual I only had time to take a few photos.

Here is the only one I took of our memorabilia room dedicated to Dennis Hartweg which included Fred Gibb, Dick Harrell, Ann and Dennis's wall and itmes from the Fred Gibb Memorial shows from year one. The library has not yet been completed and was 'hidden' away. Thanks to Jeff Murphy for his temporary usage of the timing trees. Ann and I spent MANY weeks on this room. I could never have had the entire shop and all the legistics that went with it to this stage had it not been for the help that Ann has given me the last 9 months while I was trying to make ends meet.

Lastly, thanks to Nancy for bringing Helen and that WAY COOL new Camaro. I had the highway open for you to do one of your burnouts as I had sent the Police Chief on vacation but you passed on the chance.......... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

While at Gateway for the Musclecar Reunion we had Don Garlits, Roland Leong, Larry Reyes and Jim (help me out guys) who was the track starter for many years at St. Louis International Raceway and who claimed to have actually put the knock down hinges on this very tree, sign one of the trees for us. I will post some of those photos later. Great history behind these trees. When I told Big Daddy where the tree came from he laughed and said he had seen a few red lights off this tree over the years. Just wanted to add my admiration and best wishes to Rick and Annie at the "new" shop.

As some one who has been to Springfield,Il several times, it is a great mid west city and Muscle Car area.

I'll always remember Don and Judi Stowers, as they lived out "here" for many years, before retiring.

I started my 2005 Hot Rod Power Tour from Springfield and did Indy and Nashville before returning car to Springfield and flying home. Then flew back and drove my 69 Camaro from Dennis Thomas's home to the 05' Gibb Show.

best regards always, Chuck

Place looks great!! I told you it was a good idea to take the Gainsville tree with you to Gateway!! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

They cut down the Gainsville tree when the rules changed. The full height tree's story from the eBay ad:

"In the mid 80's we decided that the 3000' asphalt runway we have in our backyard (a private airport we own) could be better used as a drag strip. We contacted the IHRA and became a sanctioned 1/8th mile facility. Not wanting to spend a huge amount of money on equipment, we located and purchased this Chrondek set up from the people who ran IHRA. This equipment at one time was at the strip in Bristol, TN. It was oudated and an antique when we bought it, but it worked, and the price was something we could live with. We raced into the early 90's and called it quits. We restatred the racing in the late 90's, but that was using a new, computer set up (TSI) and never used the Chrondek stuff again. There is no need for it to just sit in a building, so, here it is.

This is a real piece of drag racing history, and the perfect addition to the shop, garage, or den of a serious drag racing junkie. You won't find one of these at Big Lots. I'd bet there are only a handfull of these left. It includes the powerpack for the pre-stage lights. I have a few other pieces (photo cells, and some other stuff I'd talk with you about if you're interested) but this auction is for the tree and the pre-stage powerpack.

I can't ship it, so it's for local pick-up. I'm in St. Clairsville, Ohio across the river from Wheeling, West Virginia....exit 213 off of I-70."
