I'm curious to know if they did a complete short-block change, or even pistons, when they put the 074s on...otherwise, there ain't near enough piston to fill those chambers! Great looking car, though...

When I picked bought my MN motor a year and a half ago, it had 842's on it dated 8/68. I wondered if they were dealer installed or put on at a later date. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

[/ QUOTE ] Rob, I gotta agree with you about not enough piston to fill those #074 chambers! I put a set of aluminum #077's on my stock 1970 LS-6 closed chamber motor and it really neutered it down. Sure it's more pump gas friendly and even runs a little cooler but it doesn't have the snap that it used to. I even used a very thin Cometic head gasket (.022, I think) to simulate the original thin steel embossed gasket. Lately, I've been thinking of a piston swap or maybe even putting back on the old #291 iron closed chambers.

If my memory isn't failing me [quite possible!], you're talking about a 34cc dome [L72] going into a 118cc chamber [074]...just ballparking it, that combo would be somewhere in the 9:1 range! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

And that's a best case scenario, assuming the rest of the clearances/specs are spot on...
