A friend called me the other day and said he had just got back from looking at a couple of Mopar factory light weight cars. He said the guy that owned them had decided it's time to start parting with most of his collection. He told me there was a Chevelle there I might be interested in. After he described it to me, yes I was definately interested so he arranged to take me to see it the next day. This gentleman has around 50-60 cars all under covers in his beautiful storage building. I missed most of the tour because I was consumed with looking at the Chevelle I went there to see, but I did get in on a few of them so thought I would share....
1967 Camaro L78 - This was a low mile car with all original paint and interior. It had a buildsheet and maybe some other documentation, It did not have the original engine but was indeed a real L78 car.

1970 1/2 RS Z28 - This one was all original except for a repaint. All kinds of documentation including the POP. I believe it had 71k miles. It had excellent original interior. Engine bay and undercarriage looked nice, like you would expect on a well cared for unrestored car.

1955 Chevy - Not much of a muscle car, but this thing was awesome! 8k actual miles! All original everything! Undercarriage was unbelievable for a car this old! It was a one owner car until this gentleman bought it many years ago. If I remember right, I think he said he paid $50 for it! (That was a few years ago - LOL)
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c295/imnokla/Forums/55Chevy.jpg
1961 Starliner 390/401hp Tri Power - I believe this one had a repaint, other than that it was original also.
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c295/imnokla/Forums/Starliner.jpg
I want to go back and see all the cars, I missed so many because I was busy looking over the Chevelle. Every car had a story and most were documented survivors. Not many Camaros, but there were a couple more..one red one that was an all original survivor, but I don't remember anything else about it. There were some Implalas, a bubbletop or two, an Avanti, a bunch of 55, 56, 57's. There was a beautiful 57 Fuel Inj Convertible that was a gorgeous dusk rose color. And of course the Mopar factory light weights. I should have paid more attention to those...they had the drivers suits and memorbilia with them. Even though I missed out on a lot of the tour, it was a great trip and I bought the Chevelle I went there to see. It was a documented survivor with 20k miles. Original drivetrain, paint, interior. Unbelievable find, I was so happy! Her name is Black Betty...and here she is after I got her home and dusted off:

Thanks Guys...I appreciate the kind words! My first true survivor car http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif And yes, I do love that Black/Red combo!!!
She is a 1967 Chevelle SS 396/350hp 4-Speed. Documented with original invoice, magazine articles, and misc owner history. 20k actual miles with original drivetrain, paint, interior. The first thing the original owner did when he bought the car new was put headers and mags on it, mags are long gone but the headers are still there. I'm searching for correct manifolds. There has been a little piddling done in the engine bay over the years. She was the centerfold in a Muscle Car magazine in the mid 80's (have the magazine at home but don't recall the issue right now) but like 95% of all pin-up girls she had some fake stuff going on up top http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif. The photo in the mag shows her sporting aluminum heads. But apparently as she aged she had those removed and returned to her original self. I suspect during that time is when she lost her original valve covers...I'm searching for correct those also. Other than the manifolds, valve covers, radiator cap, and a couple other small parts, she is 100% all #'s correct. The interior is all original and is nearly perfect. Everything works, even the clock, and the am/fm radio with rear speaker sounds awesome - really brings back the old days. The paint is original...and she is proof that pictures can and do lie. She doesn't look quite as perfect in person as she does here. The old laquer is chequing and she has had a few bumps and bruises along the way. But she will be keeping her original paint...gives her character and I like her that way! The undercarriage is unbelievably clean and totally rust free and is a testament to the fact that she was only driven her short 20k miles on dry sunny days. Here's a few more photos of her. And if anyone has or knows of valve covers or manifolds...please do tell!!
The factory lightweights...I have no idea what they were...I'm race car illiterate. But I'll find out. I'm going back and I'll get some pictures of those this time and find out what they are, as well as some of the other cars I missed! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Okay, I went ahead and called about the Mopars. Excuse my ignorance here...I'll do the best I can at relaying what he told me. There were two of them...
1)1968 Dodge Dart Factory Hemi Super Stock. Purchased new from Mattic Dodge who is still in business. Documentation all intact and also documented by Galen Govier. This car was never campaigned.
2)1965 Dodge Coronet Factory Hemi Light Weight. Sold by an LA dealer. Some of the drivers he named were Jimmy Clark, Doc Conroy, Tim DeFrank. Car was named Hemi Express. Retired in 1967.
Both cars are heavily documented real deal cars. He said it was believed there were only around 50 of them made. I didn't get any photos of them, but they were both in nice condition, not beat or dented up. I remember my friend that took me there was freaking out about all the correct nuts and bolts and stuff. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif
While I was visiting with the owner on the phone, he also mentioned a 70 Challenger he has. Documented and he said it was one of 13. I asked what made it that, and he said an Alligator top. Said it was on the fender tag. I never saw that car. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
The guy has some really unusual and cool cars. Nearly all are documented and most are low mile and/or survivors. If you guys that were asking about the lightweight/superstock cars are interested, let me know and I am happy to put you in touch with the owner. He's a great guy and loves to talk about his cars. He is not actively trying to sell them but he's not living in the past either, he knows what they are worth. I didn't get fire sale pricing on the Chevelle I bought, but then where was I going to find another??? Truth be known...I would have paid more! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Sam, I must comment on your Chevelle...that thing is absolutely, without a doubt, drop dead gorgeous!

Sam,
When I first saw Jacquie's car, it brought back memories of your beauty. Isn't it funny, but when I first saw my car on the Reedman's lot in '68, I thought the red interior was just NOT manly at all. But I was still in love with the car. I figured I'd have to take some abuse from the other car guys for such a "sissy" interior. Boy, looking back on it now, I can say it certainly DID grow on me. Now, I couldn't imagine the car with a black interior (as I originally thought it should have). It just seems "Right" the way it is. It's just the 'all time' combination.
Now if you really want to get your heart pounding, just imagine those 3 unrestored cars in the same parking lot, or going through the gears together downtown. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Black/red cars are surely sweet...I'd prefer to have a more unmolested engine bay on a "top shelf" survivor, but a GREAT find nonetheless, nothing a few months of tracking down OE parts couldnt' handle...My boss would have bought it in a heartbeat if he had caught wind of it...
