I recently purchased an NOS air pump and I have a question. The pump turns but it seams tight is this normal for a new pump. It pulses when turned (by hand) like a pump. Since I will not be installing this for some time I was hoping someone could offer an opinion.
Thanks

Any ideas, the pump turns but seems tight. I was hoping for some feedback in case I need to return it.

Carl, FWIW, I have a SHUCKS (New) i.e. Reman unit in the garage I got 20 years ago and never installed because I had my orig rebuilt by ASL (Sparks,Nev) I opened the box and gave her a spin and just as you describe it takes some effort and has a hesitation (drag) at portions of the rotation. I think this is normal. Some thing about carbon vanes rotating in a non-concentric bore acts as the air 'pump'. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

I checked a '67 pump I have in my garage and even though it is used it has resistance when turned. The vanes on the air pumps contact the housing when they turn so there will be some resistance. New pumps sometimes even squealed during break in because of this. Clint
