Beautiful day in Madison.....Sunny.....Temp about 80 degrees.....and Cars........and Cars......and "More" Cars.....got to registration about an hour before they opened and ended up talking with Car guys I had never met before for "Hours"...........How Cool is that.....Suposed to get some Rain (Sammy) tomorrow...But.....What's new....Her are some pic's from Registration....Leaving in a couple of minutes to go pick Charley and Shirley from the Airport....then we have to find Charley's Car.....Then go to the Ring Brothers get together......More Pic's later

Picked up Charley and Shirley at the Airport and went to the local Quaker Steak and Lube for a local car show....Mark brought Charley's car over and Charley got to drive it for the first time.........we went in to eat and the service was so slow that when we came out everyone was gone.....so.....No pic's to speak of.........

Cool Rainy day in Madison.......Scardino weather....Even with the Sammy weather, there was hardly an empty parking spot.....the place was "Packed"....(must be the poor economy)........they were calling for a lousy day tomorrow earlier in the day, now things are looking up for a decent day in Racine....It's 4:30 now and it's starting to clear up.....Here are a bunch of Pic's from today....

Yep!!...............Numbers Guy for the rest of the Trip (Yellow Nova)......The Biscayne ran perfectly and without trouble....the only issue is the the Autozone (China made) throwout bearing is starting to "Chatter"......should have kept the old GM one in there.......Charley is having an intermittent Headlight issue...Scott's Camaro and the Chevelle are trouble free.....Walking out the door for the trip to South Bend

Well, Clill made to South Bend o.k. I talked to him at the fair grounds and he didn't have any problems, but another in his group lost a control arm bolt and had to do a roadside repair with the help of a borrowed floor jack and some loctite to be sure the bolt wouldn't come loose again.

I haven't seen so many people at the fairgrounds since the early 60's when the 4-H Fair was in full swing. And this is on a week day when everybody is suposed to be working !!

As we were driving...Scott noticed that his car didn't feel right and pulled over,,,,,the lower control arm bolt came out and collapsed the front end....lucky he was stopped and not at Speed....A local Car guy came along that lived in the area and provided everything needed to repair it,, we were back on the road in 30 minutes....Pretty Cool..

There was a pretty bad Traffic Jam on I-75 south today that some got stuck in for 1-1 1/2 hrs....we got into it and just Stopped, but we were able to squeeze over to the right shoulder and got off, found a parallel road and were back on the highway in 15 minutes.....Dodged a Bullet.....Dave and Amy from ARS had a slight mishap when the Hood on the Nova blew open at Speed.......Darn...

Rain, Rain........Left this morning from Dayton after the Thunder Boomers went thru...the actual drive to Somerset wasn't bad at all, But....just as we got to the Venue, the Rain started again...we had to park quite a distance from the main area so in the Scramble to get there after parking in the Rain....I forgot my camera in the car...so,...no pic's from the park....after a hour rainstorm the sky cleared and the Sun came out and turned out to be a very nice afternoon (what was left of it).....here are some pic's from the drive today...

Another one under the belt.....All in All....it was a great "Journey"......we had Cold and Wind.....Rain....Clouds...Sunshine, Heat and a Cool Breeze......there wasn't any traffic jam's except for one that we managed to by-pass very quickly......the Venues were easy in.....easy out and sized correctly for the volume of cars except for maybe Somerset.......we stayed at Hampton Inn's along the way and everything was above average at each location......Except for Scott's minor repair issue with his car, there weren't any mechanical issues with any of the cars in our group.......Every day was a new adventure along the way.....the scenery in the south is also fantastic....Family Events that runs the Power Tour has routes planned out that are Scenic, yet flow the traffic volume very well......
The only problem with the Power Tour is that it's relatively early in the year and we get "Spoiled" with the enormity of the event and everything that go's along with it......Anyhow.....Met lot's of new people and made some new friends along the way......got to go for a ride in a certain un-named persons new car and was an "Unwilling" participant in a unauthorized display of unlawful acceleration on a Public roadway.. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif....My Son Chris that came with for the first time and drove the Chevelle now understands why we play with these "Old Junk Cars".....LOL.........All in All.....It's a Must Do thing.....
Anyhow......the #'s Car averaged around 18 MPG with it's 195 HP...Charley got sucked up into the Vortex on the Highway one day when I "Opened Up" both barrels... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif But, more importantly......the Nova did what cars are meant to do.......Be Driven.......Here are some pic's when we got home, it's covered in Bug's and Dirty from rain and I'll spent today cleaning it, But......That's why God invented Soap.....Again.....If you can ever make it happen to Participate, you won't be Sorry....

Once again the Power Tour was a blast. Towns you wouldn't think of going to on vacation are part of what makes it special. Madison Wi, Racine Wi, South Bend Indiana, Mt Clemens Mi,Dayton Ohio, Somerset Kentucky and Bristol Tennessee. It's not just about the drive and places you go. It's about all the people you meet. You leave your hotel at maybe 8:00am and head down the road. We used to go back to the previous days venue and do the driver meeting but there is really no need. You get to the next venue in early afternoon. Cars driving the entire trip are over 1000 and locals etc at each venue add another couple thousand. So you are probably at a car show each day with at least 3000 cars. You leave the show at maybe 5:00 pm and find your hotel, go eat dinner somewhere and then come back and hang out in the hotel parking lot. Summer evenings in the parking lots are great. If the hotels are close together you usually end up seeing plenty of people sitting in lawn chairs at the curb egging hot rodders on. One town that won't be named even had a law enforcement officer egging me on so me and Kwhizz did nice burnout in front of the crowd in my Camaro. I pulled back into the parking lot to get a pic of me and the cop car and the cop car went zooming out of the parking lot. He had told the crowd he was not going to be seen with me and was leaving before I got back. I'm from Ca. That could never happen out west. My car would have been impounded etc. I parked my Camaro with Jim, Forrest and the rest of the gang in the Mothers display. They were a great bunch. I did my first pass down the dragstrip in my new car against Jim from Mothers in his really cool 572" ElCamino. We were neck and neck down the track with me edging him by running a 12.66@119 against his 12.77@112. Weather was cold -hot-damp- wet etc. All part of the adventure. Car ran great. Had a issue with the heater not working once in awhile that we think is the servo motor that opens and closes the hot water valve being over powered by the flow of water so it wouldn't open. These LS engine flow alot of water. I remember seeing to odometer turning over 1000 miles but don't remember checking it again. Car is headed to Detroit for the Motor States Challenge shootout this weekend at Gingerman Raceway. Now I get to see how it works on a road race track.

Car probably didn't hook up till after half track. I'm a idiot at the drag strip and just plain forget about feathering the throttle. Last night I realized I should have left in 2nd gear to try and hook up off the line. I had a 2.36 60' time.

Did you take the JA around the track at Bristol? One of my friends took his car. He said they told everyone to stay behind the 'Pace Car', but it pulled off after one lap. The Red is : PPG Duracryl 2189 Cranberry Red (Chevy code 75 Lacquer in 1972) The same color as my 1972 Camaro.

In our group I was the first car behind the pace car. The closer I got the faster he went http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif We were hitting 90 in the straights and 80 in the corners http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif:):)

It was fun as h#ll!!!
