I see some places on the internet stating that first gen Z28 Camaros had the top of their cowl's painted the same color as the stripe. Is this true? If so, was it done 67, 68, and 69? Was it a LOS or NOR thing, or both?
Thanks,
Tony Huntimer

Only on LA built 67 and 68 Z28s with white stripes only.

not entirely true, ALL 67-69 Z28's, Z10's and Z11's built at the Van Nuys assembly plant in the LA area had their upper cowl painted stripe color; white, black, orange, whatever
Norwood did not.
that is what makes it ez to determine what an old body shell USED to be from the VN plant (assuming Z28 sleuthwork)

Well I learnt something. I did not know the others from LA were done the same way as 67-68 Zs. Thanks

It's how they're painted is different. The blue 02E car is blue across the top of the cowl. Only white is under the cowl. Car still has original paint.

Yes I realized that Joe just was not sure on the 69 cars. Still learning every day.

Me too. There's a lot more to understand about Camaros than was know when I got the car 33 years ago...Joe

This is some great stuff! I thought I found a blue NOR Z28 with a white cowl. So NOR didn't paint their cowls stripe color?
Anyone have pictures?
I see hints of orange here:

I think this is another photo of the Norwood 6B Marina Blue 67 Z28 pictured on Jerry MacNeish's website:

The restoration photos on www.67z28.net (http://www.67z28.net) are of my Deepwater Blue car 67 Z28, also a Norwood 6B car. Here are some before and after photos of the cowl area. Although the car had been repainted when I stripped her down, I think I was still able to determine how the factory had painted the area:

The two 69 Z's we've done in the last few years were both NOR black stripe OP cars. Both had the full blackout up to the base of the windshield.
Out of the "norm", but that's how they were.

the Norwood cars got "overspray" cowl color where the Van Nuys got the entire top of the cowl stripe color form the two vertical seams from side to side and from the base of the windshield to the edge of the horizontal portion of the upper cowl

Norwood cars did have different degrees of overspray on the cowl (The masking process varied quite a bit). Some cars have the stripe color cover the cowl entirely and top of the firewall. It is more common to find less stripe color towards the front of the cowl, but it did occur quite often.

My 69 Z has solid white overspray on the driver's side (in front of the cowl vent panel) while the pass side has light coverage.
Pretty typical for NOR cars. Some may be there, but not always.
