Replaced the old (original?) starter and solenoid assembly on my '67 L35/M40 Camaro. Had this heat shield installed with paper tag still attached. The heat shield doesn't show up in my assembly manual in the L35 assembly section so is it still an assembly line part or a service part added later?

In my experience a part with a label like that one was almost certainly added later. Assembly line parts that required ID had labels with codes or paint daubs.

The heat shield in the pic with the starter is not the correct 1969-70 396-427-454 factory starter solenoid heat shield - The one pictured is for Oldsmobile and they are in reproduction by The Parts Place thru ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayIS...em=230233155652 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&it em=230233155652)

The 1969-70 BB starter solenoid heat shields are in reproduction and are sold by the same company, but are not 100% like originals
