Maybe i have an opportunity to by an 1975 Olds.

The owner will send me some pics into the next days...

VIN: 3Q35T5X124495

But i can´t find any information about the car.

Is this an 1Gen Custom Cruiser? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Maybe anyone can decode the VIN?

Probably rides like a dream. You might want to stop every hundred miles or so to clean the Kia's out of the wheel wells. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Wow, looks like it's missing the turret. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Seriously, cool car. I think that's one of those wagons with one of those two-way tailgates, if I remember correctly. It either folds out like a tailgate, or opens like a car door. I believe you can also turn the trunk key and watch the rear window drop into the tailgate. These cars are attention getters at cruise nights. Most younger people grew up in SUV's, and they have no idea that most familes, back in the 70's, had station wagons. This Olds, and the big Buick Estate Wagon, were the most luxurious "family trucksters" in the GM lineup at the time.

When I was a kid back in the late 60's my old little league baseball coach used to fit the whole team in his to go to the games. Not sure if parents today would allow that but I used to ride in the very back looking out the back window. It was a comfortable cruiser. Cool ride http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

On a side note our team took 1st place that year! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

Whoa, I remember that color green. Looks like Crest toothpaste.

Seriously, that's a cool long roof! Buy it.

This is one of the clamshell wagons. The window goes up into the roof, and the tailgate goes under the floor. If there are problems with the tailgate, it would be better to walk away from it. I see by the duct tape around the tailgate, that it might have problems.

Those are getting harder to come by - very sought after by the demo derby crowd. 1975 was be the height of the smog era, but that can be remedied. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

If you've got time, I'd track down the Fisher body manual - there's a section on the care and feeding of the clamshell tailgate that will let you know what you're in for if something goes wrong. Right rear quarter looks to have been repainted; would we classify this as pea green, or puke green? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hmmm.gif

Thanks for helping me...

Yeah, the color green is horrible... looks like a puke green pea primer http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have got time with the car...

I´m thinking about "what can i do with it..." bevor i get buying the car...

My idea(s):

- 90% Original
- two tone color paint (white / green?)
- alternative: scooby doo color http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
- new (tiki) interieur (two tone seats and so on...)
- engine rebuilt, but original
- modern 15" wheels... maybe 8" in front, 10" or 12" rear
- Surfboard strap on the roof
- tow bar for boat trailer (driving license for boats cost ~USD800,- here... i will do this in 2010 http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif )

I like the car... but i´m not a millionaire...

Whats the problem exactly with the tailgate?

And what does it cost this ride in the U.S.?

Thanks pals http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

JJEH

that is STUPID money, $700 maybe, no where near $7000

I got $2200 for this one owner car with air, all original paint, interior, etc, BRAND NEW tires, brakes, with a WORKING clamshell last year about this time:

The other thing is, I guarantee you that restoring that wagon will be absurdly difficult. It wasn't easy restoring my '68 442, and they're somewhat popular (not really, but way more than an '75 Olds wagon).

You're definitely better off finding one like Jim had here in the US and shipping it. In the long run, the cost comparison to a resto won't even be close.

If you're stuck on getting a Clamshell and bothering to import one, go for the Chevy w/ the 454!.

Like this deal..

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/chevrolet...SRCHQ3aUSQ3a101 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/chevrolet-impala-kingswood-72-chevy-kingswood-estate-wagon_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQitemZ170342303753QQsspagen ameZRSSQ3aBQ3aSRCHQ3aUSQ3a101)

Cool cars but I had my fill of clams when taking my apprenticeship as the local funeral home had a few Clamshell hearses we'd service and guess who got stuck lying in the back pulling headliners and fooling w/ the upper window tracks etc..

Wow, that was pretty good money for that wagon too. Not in that great of shape. Guess the 'ol Kingswoods are finally getting their day in the sun, so to speak.

Yep too much for that one but there's still a few out there that the demo derby guys haven't wrecked yet..

Here's a Clamshell site...has Chevy production #'s and notes a total of 696,680 Chevy Clams were built!.

Fellas, look at the car we're talking about it. This is the premiere Supercar website on the planet. I ask.....what happened? Did we run out of Supercars to talk about? How does this car deserve 3 pages here. I'm sorry, and I grew up and love 60's era station wagons alot, but this particular car? I'm missing it. I'm really, really missing it! I would like to think I've helped people and contributed a bit of knowledge to this site, but this particular car, does not belong here.

Mark

i understand your raise objections.

But look, i´m a very respectful guy. I admire this board and all the expenditure here.

And if i have any questions about us-cars, you are my number one.

That is one reason why i support this board!

I like you guys and i have a lot of respect to you!

Sorry that my english skills not good for fluent talking (at this time). That makes it a little bit strenuous for me, to explain my ideas.

And sorry that i´m not an owner of a Super- or Musclecar, only of a Beretta Z...

But still i hope that i´m still welcome here...

Thanks... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

Mark, I disagree.

I think that this is the right place for Jochen to ask his questions on this station wagon. This is the "Lounge" which IMO is kind of a off topic kind of place to bring it up. It is not "Other Muscle", or "Supercar/Musclecar Discussion" areas of the board, it is the Lounge.

The fact that Jochen, being from Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany, and enjoys US made cars is very cool! We should welcome his interest! We should help each other out. Great example is that I had a Mercedes Benz, 1976 350SLC and I posted the original owners name and stuff. Turns out that it was a town not far from Jochen. Jochen took the time to contact the original owner for me on his phone since I don't speak German. That was very nice of him to help another member out. We should be as nice!

I think that it is fun to discuss all makes and models and being in the Lounge what harm could it cause. I have had plenty of muscle cars, but like most here I enjoy all makes of cars and trucks.

One of my favorite threads on this board is of old Street Scenes that is located here in the Lounge.

It has nearly 1,000 post and has been looked out over 60,000 times. You see a lot of neat old cars and street scenes there. Not all muscle at all but very fun to look at and talk about.

Although the rest of the lads in the shop always had a hoot trying to freak me out, what stuck w/ me more than the morbid factor is a hatred for the 'lily of the valley' scent.. Ever since, I just about puke whenever I smell the 'funeral fragrance' and even a few weeks ago I snapped and pitched an f/f air freshener out my buddy's window as soon as I got into his truck..
