Phil, SYC Member "Woj", our Wives, Grady, SYC Member "1969grb", and myself all met and went to the Riverfront Car Cruise in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio near Akron on Monday night. The Northern Ohio Chevelle Club had the "spotlight" this night and the feature car was Chevelles so the club had a special area reserved for it's members and their cars.

The night was a little overcast but turned out to be ok.. Grady was kind enough to take Phil's Wife and mine for a ride in his 69 COPO Chevelle. I rode with Phil in his beautiful 69 Chevelle SS 396 survivor car and we followed them...

My Wife never rode in a COPO car before and neither did Phil's. You can see by the expression on their faces they were loving every minute of it!! Thanks again Grady!! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

This was just before Grady got onto the on ramp to the interstate and hammered the COPO in second gear, breaking the tires loose with the girls in the car.. I'll tell you that car hauls A$$!!

Phil and Grady's car together.. Both cars won awards (ribbons) for best Chevelles at the cruise.. Congrads Guys!!

Phil and Grady's cars again... It was amazing to me how many people walked by Grady's car and did not know that the car was a COPO car...

This was a very nice 68 Chevelle SS 396, real 138 car, out of the Akron area. The owner was a very nice guy and recently finished the resto on the car..

I love that Survivor '69 Chevelle COPO. Could you imagine walking onto a dealer lot in very late 1969 and seeing a left-over '69 COPO 427 Chevelle sitting with new 1970 model LS-6's! That would be an incredibly hard choice to make and I honestly don't know which one I would have picked. It's just fun to dream I guess!

It's really nice to see someone actually driving one of these cars on the street. That is what they are meant for. Sitting in a museum is a crime, or at least should be.
I know exactly what it was like walking onto the dealer's lot in '69. I bought our car in mid August '69 and only a couple of weeks later I found out that a 450 hp 454 was coming out in the '70 Chevelle. I was a little disappointed at the time, but once I got the carb and distributor sorted out, the car performed very well. There was a COPO Camaro and three Chevelles sold in the area. Mine was the last one, so there wasn't an opportunity to compare the L72 and LS6 on the same lot at the same time. Beare Motors did sell at least two LS6 Chevelles. One was sold locally and the othere one went to Thunder Bay I believe.
It's nice to see Grady carrying the torch....with the ladies. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
