I just picked up the new Time Life magazine 40th anniversary special. What a great book!! It has great pictures and coverage of 1969.. Woodstock, Vietnam, Washington DC, Joe Namath, Apollo 11 moon mission, The Manson Family murders etc....
It kind of ties in with the weekend I had. Last Sunday I saw Canned Heat and 38 Special in concert. The Canned Heat concert was hysterical.. It brought all kinds of "real day" Hippies out!! I was born in 1970 but had I been born earlier and been to Woodstock I would have felt I was at a smaller Woodstock concert on Sunday!!
I thought this picture was one of the best in the magazine.. Check out these Hippies riding on the hood of this 68 Chevelle SS 396 car!! WOW......

Dude, that's my twin brother Chuck. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I love he pic of the group on the hood of that Chevelle. Back in the day it was just a car. Now we put em in climate controled sheds, and roped off areas. Back then you beat hell out of them, spilled beer on the seats, and groped the girlfriend,(or worse)in the back seat. Sure glad to have contributed to the insanity. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Without Bob Hite ( vocals ) there really canno http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/headbang.gift be a Canned Heat. I'm sure they are some guys with 1 original guy marching on.

Can you imagine what 5 people on the hood of a car would do to a modern car? Probably total it.

Here's a link to a "where were you in '69" thread on another forum that has older car guys on it (kinda like a bunch of you old geezers).

I think the drummer was the only original member of the 4 man band that I saw... Thats what I gathered from what I read about them currently....

The funny thing is that, as concerts go, Woodstock is usually considered very overrated. It's the sense of nostalgia and its place in pop culture - along with Altamont - that kinda signaled the end of the idealism that characterized the late-1960s.
You can look at festivals like Monterey Pop, Glastonbury, or the Isle of Wight and they produced a lot more interesting music (often with the same bands) than what went on at Woodstock. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif
