Hey guys,

I was flipping through an old Car Craft in the reading room and saw this photo of the '69 396 Pace Car from Indy and saw the hood lock on the hood. How many of the Z11's got these hood locks?

I'm sure the pacecar experts will chime in but I'm pretty sure they were only used on the car(s) that actually paced the race, as a safety precaution.

Nice Pic! AM radio! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif And it looks like the high speeds almost ripped the top windsheild trim off.

I don't see a pin protruding thru the hole in the hood. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hmmm.gif

Those are probably flush locking hood pins.

Lots of guys on this site knew Terry Carney, his family operated "Terry" Carney Chevrolet in Indiana. Terry was at Indy when Chevrolet was the pace car and he said security was very high. They were worried about somone tampering with the pace car. All pace car hoods were locked. He remembers the '67 pace car well and how the hood was unlocked so the dealers could view the engine. It was secured after the viewing.

2 got hood pins from the factory (engineering), the number 1 and number 2 "real Pacecars used to pace the race in 69 were the only ones.
