Hi all, I just picked up my first chevelle this week. A good friend who does restoration work on my camaro's turned this car up. I've always wanted a 66 or 67 chevelle and was waiting for the right piece to show up. I'm excited about the car and will be restoring it with the hope of showing and getting involved with the associated chevelle groups! It's a very solid complete car with good documentation. I've been doing some searches on the L79's and have not come up with much so I'm hoping some members can give me some information or examples. I want to do this car justice http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The carb and exhaust manifolds were changed out but I got the original carb loose. The motor has never been torn down and alt, starter, dist, all match up. I even think the upper radiator hose is original?

I think I'm satisfied with this engine pad stamp but not an expert on these.....good?

EP is an L79 code.
is the intake aluminum?

Yes, it's aluminum but the 67 used it with a Holley and the 68 was cast iron with quadrajet from what I've learned.

1967 took a 490 aluminum intake, not a cast iron unit. That carb does not look correct. What is the number on it?

Pretty cool Chevelle!
I'm just down the road from you in Madison.

The car was raced and the Holley and exhaust manifolds were changed as was common to make these L79's optimal. The original single inlet Holley is with the car but not the manifolds. The shifter was also changed but have it too. I did read somewhere that headers could be ordered with this RPO and come in the trunk....anyone?

I've lived here in Seymour for 25 years and have yet to get over to Madison. I hear its real scenic there on the Ohio river. I need to get to that boat race y'all have http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

That is a great car! I have a L-79 in my 67 Vette and it just a great driving, fast piece. You will enjoy that motor.
I'm sure not the final authority, but I like the pad very much. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

This is just a neat car and I am a big fan of the L-79 327, what a great find. I am starting to think that Cragers were the standard wheel from the factory on 66-67 Chevelles. Just about every great Chevelle I have ever seen has them.

So what where the production numbers for the 67 chevelle with the L79 option? Was the L79 avaliable in the convertible?
Nice car!!!!

Googling for '67 A-Body L79 production indicates slightly over 4000 units...whether correct or not and if it represents all body styles http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif?.

That's a super nice car , look forward to the resto thread http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
67 is my favourite year Chevelle , I bought a white/red 283/glide 46,000 mile survivor coupe in 1985 (only they weren't called survivors then http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif ), wish I had it now http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

That's what I come up with...something like 4046 or so. It does cross through all chevelle & camino models including wagons. Of course if its in a 67 chevelle it would be in a non SS malibu such as this. Correct me if I'm wrong but in the 67 chevelle SS only the 396 325hp & 350hp motors were available? The L79 had a realistic 350hp rating in the past but was downgraded to 325hp in 67, although no changes were made, as not to compete with the new big block introduction. I've heard that many racers knew the L79 would flog the big block 350hp so this little malibu must have been a real surprise factory sleeper! Here's the cowl tag on the car. I've not been able to get much from it other than model, assembly date, and colors.

I was hoping to save the original paint but its just past being a good idea http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif It is starting to peck with rust in particular below the belt trim. It does have a quarter size hole at the underside of each quarter. It will need to be sealed to keep it from getting more damage or I'll be chasing it for ever.

It has a pretty cool sticker collection in the trunk. The one in the center says it all. I'm going to keep it that way!

That rust isn't going anywhere. As long as it doesn't see much weather (mainly salt or continuous moisture), it won't get worse. I've seen cars stay like that for years.

And to whoever it was that asked, yes, the L79 was available in the 67 Malibu convertible.

you can still paint it, but I would try the rust sauce and see what it looks like, it may turn out real nice and a little airbrush action make it a nice driver.

The motor and transmission have been removed for cleaning and inspection. I had to take out the radiator and have it tested and repaired in needed anyway. I have a question about the M21's vin stamp. It does'nt match up with the font style of the engine stamp? I have no doubt it's the original as it matches the POP and was evident it had never been out before. Are the two font style stamps typical for Chevelle Baltimore builds?
