1971 Castillian Bronze over Sandalwood GTO. 400/automatic with 3:55 Posi, complete numbers matching front to back top to bottom. This is an UNRESTORED 92,050 mile car that has full maintenance, mileage and ownership history back to day 1! PHS documentation lists: TURB/HYD, G70X14-WL-FG, CONSOLE-FRT, PWR STRG-VAR, GAUGE-TACH, SAFE-T-TRACK, RADIO-P/B, WHLS-RALLY 2, PWR BRK-DISC Everything works including the dome light, heater, fan/defroster, lights, blinkers, and wipers. Car starts easily, idles nicely and drives beautifully! The originality of the car is striking – panel gaps and finish work are correct and imperfect. Every panel and trim piece are original to the car and show a patina that cannot be duplicated. The car has the usual garage and parking lot marks you would expect in an unrestored 38 year old car but has NONE of the rust you would expect in a car from the Northeast – it is completely RUST FREE! Protecto plate owners manual and full documentation included. $15,500 OBO 203-948-8011 or [email protected]

Any offers?

Wow! This car seems like a good buy to me even in this crappy economic recession.

That's what I thought....perceived value I guess. If it's priced right it must be junk.

This is without question the nicest driving old car I've ever owned, and I've had close to 50 Pontiacs in the last 25 years. She isn't a show queen, but hands down she will blow away any other numbers matching classic in this price range!

Dash is in.

I think this car's a deal too!.

Were the dashes that had the Pontiac word above the glovebox '72 only?.

Yes, the 70 & 71's were smooth, the 72 had the Pontiac above and to the right of the glove box. Each of the years the Sandlewood interior was slightly different in tint - I was lucky enough to find a 71 dash pad for the car - has just the right amount of age in it, but still nice and soft.

Pulled the console today to replace the shifter cable (frayed) and decided to pull the seats and detail things properly. Pulled back the carpet when vacuuming to check out the condition.....the picture speaks for itself.

Somebody buy this thing before I decide to keep it!

IMHO that car is an excellent value.
A lot of folks are broke like me and nothing seems to be selling.
If it was a 4spd I'd rob a liquor store and come buy it.

I just told my other half the same thing. I wish it was a 4 speed. I really like the car. A good friend of mine here in Houston just picked up it's twin in a convert. Really a striking paint/interior combination.

What's the best way to sell this car - clearly price has no effect!

E-Bay?

I would put in on eBay with a fairly high price. Look at it as cheap advertising and make contacts from there that will probably lead to a sale.

This isn't an air conditioned car is it? I didn't see AC in your write-up.

The only problem with Ebay or auction in general is you are setting the price for everyone to see. If 75 bidders dem the car worth X then the remainder of the market thinks X is correct for ever more, the car is a very cool car but the market is the market.

Here is a link to a 71 GTO I sold on consignment recently. The owner had it on craigslist for 2 months at 12,500. He had very average pics. I took a whole group of pics and sold it for $15,000 in 2 weeks off of craigslist. The pictures do make a difference.

Your car does seem to be a great deal. Just get some good evening shots.

Hey Cris
...I thought about it...that's all...it would probably have to be something really special..or just way too good a deal to pass up...

So don't worry, I wont bid against you..hehe.....

How's the mean green #34 comin' along?? any pics??

sorry to rob this thread a bit, but if i was a pontiac guy, I would be liking this car a whole lot for the price!!It seems like a great entry level musclecar that will probably just go up in value...

Thanks guys...I spoke with the original owner today (google is great) who was very excited to hear the car was still around. He was a state trooper at the time and the union told them which dealership to go to "to get the best deal". He owned the car up until the early 80's and didn't put that many miles on it because he "had the state vehicle, so I didn't need it much." His wife drove it for a while, but they ended up getting her a small car that got better mileage. Sold it to a buddy of his who had always asked about it, "who sold it 3 weeks later for more money - I don't talk to him any more!"

He said he ordered it in the winter and picked it up in April - it was just like one of the cars in the catalogue, it was turning a corner driving up a hill and he said that was the one he wanted.

He's going to look for some old pictures of it this weekend, and we hope to get together next week.

Sounds like it was a great deal for the buyer. I had talked with you about this car about a month ago and was unable to move some of my inventory (a harley) to free up some cash to make a run at it. I guess what I dont understand is the demand for a piece like this, I was certain the originality would have brought more. what do you think accounts for the difference in values thru the GM brands (GTO, Chevelle, Camaros) for this year, seems like low demand but was curious if anyone had input. I have a 71 Camaro SS with born with drivetrain (small block) and I know it will never be worth as much as a first gen but the 71 on up just dont seem to get the value price some would expect. This GTO was worth $14-15k all day, why did it not get there...?

same reason this Super Chevy feature car only brought $26.2:

Thought high 20's would have bought it.

I was thinking the same thing, buy it (steal it), enjoy, then flip. Money left on the table on this one IMO. Another sign of the tight money out there.

The GTO is a really nice car, I think we all agree on that.

For one, the selling market is weak for the most part. Second, '71 isn't exactly the most sought after year for the Abodies.
