Post #9 mentioned some compound leg fractures and lacerations on his head...I'd say he was lucky to be alive after that one. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

YIKES!!I hope the driver is O.K.and he or she had the Goat insured for appraised value. We've all driven a little too fast once in a while. And it's not hard to have a muscle car get a way from you when you press too hard on the loud petal!! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Maybe he was a football wide receiver, got confused and ran a 'post-pattern'. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

From another website.

"I work for the State Fair Police and the driver of the GTO died from the accident later on that night. They figured the car had a problem with the suspension and a tie rod end or something snapped and made the car take a hard left into a tree (taking the tree down) and then into the pole. That was what the witnesses said that happened."

Very sad indeed. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
I can't see the left front side but the car is riding on Eagle STs and they haven't made those tires in over a decade. I hope it wasn't a age-related tire failure.

I look at the pictures of this car and it brings back a lot of bad memories from back in my youth of friends being killed in muscle cars while racing on the street or just driving recklessly. I know I had a few extremely close calls myself. I personally am not buying the Tie Rod theory; A ten year old tire blowing out at high speed does makes sense...

this is a tragic loss of life

it ran through a tree BEFORE it hit the pole???

that car was flying if the tree didn't slow him down and he still hit the pole at that rate of speed to incur THAT much damage ... sad, sad

Wondering if anyone feels bad about their bad taste comments? Seriously, class it up fellas.

I don't see anything wrong with the comments about the driver's speed and recklessness. He could have seriously injured someone else other than himself with the rate of speed that he was going. Thank god he did not hit a pedestrian or another vehicle.

I can personally attest that a 1978 GMC 4X4 will go through a telephone pole at about 60 miles an hour with no braking applied. I was the passenger, the truck was probably less than a year old and we were both liquored up enough that no one was injured. No seat belts in use, doubt I ever put a seat belt on until I went in the Air Force and was forced to. Couldnt imagine doing so now. We even tried to change the tire afterward but we couldn't get the old one off. We were on the way home from the county fair, it was a really good time and we were way to inebriated to be driving. Sometimes I wonder how I survived my youth, I think I am a little bit wiser now. Definitely don't drink and drive now, and don't condone it either.

Been there, done that. No, not the telephone pole thing but yes the youthful beer-induced death-cheating thing. Nothing quite like a two-minute long beer piss on the side of the road saying, "Hurry, hurry!" to your buddies as you worried that a cop would pull up mid-piss. Laughing that hard at stupid stuff was great.

Sorry for the hijack--we don't want this to devolve into a youthful beer-piss thread.

Unless you have better information the ony thing being speculated on is a parts failure. If you have information on the speed and the recklessness please elaborate.

Whe I was in high school ('70's) 2 friends and I killed 5 Pontiacs.
A '69 RAIV GTO & a '72 GTO (Ritchie), a '70 Trans AM (Tommy), a '70 RAIV GTO Judge (Bill) and a '69 400 Convertibe Firebird & '78 Trans Am (me). I hit a tree in the front yard with the '69!.
It's a wonder there are any Pontiac left.

When I was 16 I had a 69 Chevelle SS probably in excess of 400HP, bias ply tires, two lane rainslicked roads, never once used the seat belts, no fear and little common sense. I always speculate that the only reason I didn't kill myself in that car was the lack of gas money and the fact that I blew it up doing burnouts during the homecoming parade when I was a senior. Lucky I didn't end up wrapping it around a tree, it was always tricky to pass without breaking loose on those wet roads.
