This is clearly a reproduction setup, is it not?

GMPD serviced a 'generic' open element air cleaner well into the '90s; probably what this is. Most swap meet vendors bought it complete from GM. We would buy the lid and base individually then add a $3 K-Mart element; our total cost was about $25 less than the GM assembly.

I recall they sold well http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I also don't remember the element being that white in color. But.....

No, it wasn't - originals were yellow-hued from the oil in the paper element (the "W" in A212CW stands for oil-wetted). Later service replacements (and poor repros) weren't oil-wetted, and the paper was white.

John-

I just sold a NOS A212CX air cleaner setup which appeared to have the yellow oil wetted paper in the element. What does the X stand for? What type of oil was used on these filters?

Those were mostly aimed at GMC industrial vehicles.
I think the X stood for off road use to them.

Any of the over the counter units I've ever had didn't have the AC silk screened instructions on the backside. I agree everything in that auction is repro. Looks like someone got stung pretty badly on that one.

since he's got one more on e-bay at the moment. Probably looking for another $500 dollars. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hmmm.gif

Look at his feedback. He's had a few in the past as well.

Hard to tell from the 2 fuzzy poor pics. FWIW, here's a silkscreen on a guaranteed real lid. The originals are usually pretty heavily inked and not always totally readable. I had an original one once with 2 silk screens, one was smudged/blurry so they apparently hit it again on the opposite side. I may still have a pic of it somewhere... was the only one I ever saw like that.

I sent him an email; he danced around the fact that Classic Industries in California has these. My guess is his UPS guy is busy making deliveries from them, then right on EBAY. Just my .02 cents

Sounds a lot like politicians and others that put "spin" on everything they say. No, it's not a lie, it's just a deception, meant to draw in those (and their money) that take the words at their face value..... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsdown.gif

I had one on a LS5 corvette that was double stamped due to a fuzzy first try as well. Car was from Courtesy Chevrolet in Phoenix AZ.
