View Full Version : 2010 Yenko/SC Camaro, update
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h36/oboym/scr11087.jpg
The SCR was the unveiling of our 2010 Yenko Camaro, even for the Clary family. Thanks to Greg "The Stickerdude", John who did the renderings, Dennis, Stephano, and others who pitched in to get her to the SCR. And thanks to everyone for their postiive comments.
At the reunion the car still had its stock engine, with no upgrades, in drive and traction control on, ran mid 13s. Sunday morning the car headed back to Nickey to get a 427 engine and other performance upgrades. I cannot wait to play with it then.
As per the project as a whole, the second one is already on the drawing board to be converted, in HO, the match a '69, and several more being discussed.
If you would like to have the "supercar" of your dreams built, contact NickeyChicago (http://www.nickeychicago.net/)for more info. Trust me, they can do it.

Steve and the gang have been busy working on a few goodies for the 2010 Yenkos, including Yenko/SC 427 valve covers and custom headers. Custon built add ons, such as VCs and headers will carry the sYc assigned serial number of the car they are installed on, such as sYc-1001.

Tom said that it has to have a real 427ci engine, so we pulled out the 376ci Stock engine and are putting in a Wegner built LS7 ZO6 Corvette based engine. The trans, converter, drive shaft, and the axle shafts, will all be upgraded to handle the all the HP and TQ. http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a79/StefanoBimbi/2010%20Yenko%20Super%20Camaro/Toms2010Yenko017-2.jpg http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a79/StefanoBimbi/2010%20Yenko%20Super%20Camaro/Toms2010Yenko010-2.jpg

Really heavy duty parts good to 1,000 rwhp. But I'm confident that Rob and/or Tom will find a way to break them anyway.

We have had talks with a suspension copmany in regards to that, but until we get the car and get some track time, kind of hard to say for sure what we will do.

All of the parts we remove/replace are the property of the owners of the cars. Thus far most 427 conversions have chosen to sell the LS3 long block assemblies. We do have one LS3 still available.
We continuously seek to test the suspension components to see how they work on the track. We would have been at Union Grove this weekend if not for the rain.
The axle shafts we utilize will not only help handle the power but they will help get the power to the ground.
"The Level 5 axles for the new Camaro SS are designed to handle up to 1000HP. Using chromoly center bars, 108mm Porsche-style CV's and bolt-on chromoly inner and outer stubs, these are a direct bolt-on that fit the stock hubs and come complete with all the necessary hardware. Not only will these axles handle the horsepower, we have used different diameter chromoly axle bars on each side which will eliminate wheelhop. Wheelhop at launch which can be extremely damaging to the drivetrain and makes getting traction very difficult. By allowing the axle bars to torsionally twist at different rates the result is traction, not wheelhop."

I plan to build a Convertible for myself next year.....so, yes.
The Camaro coupe has some body flex and we are working on away to make it stiffer without sacrificing the ride quality. We'll have to see what the convertible is all about. We don't want to build an unsafe car.

Got word yesterday that our Camaro was put on the dyno for the super tune. Looks like all went well, seems we actually picked up some HP with the addition of a different CAI system. So, should be ready to go for MCACN.
Following the show, we still will not be bringing the car home, as Pedders Suspension and Nickey Chicago are going to modifiy the suspension, with the build to be featured in an upcoming magazine.
THEN..maybe to Alton.
Something that we thought was kind of cool..when Steve called Pedders to order up some parts for our Camaro, he happened to mention Yenko. The guy on the phone said "..you mean Don Yenko...the road racer?"

Why no FAST intake? With a big cube LSx, you'd make more power with an upgraded intake.

Nope...gained 4hp (?) I think it was, but killed the TQ. The FAST intake is better suited to the big port (LS7) heads versus the cnc'd LS3 pieces on our 427...as with our bbc's, bigger (runners) are not always better.

The fast intake is good for more HP generally speaking, no doubt. We performed much of the R&D for this intake along with the Guys at Wegner Motorsports.
Our Stage II NA 600hp Nickey which Bob McClurg test drove still has the experimental intake on it.
Regarding Tom's engine, he had a specific goal in mind and we bested those numbers without the additional parts (over 550hp) and were able to focus on drivability.
His engine idles better than the stock 376ci and has incredible tq at 2,500rpm up to redline.

Actually no.
Because so many of the modified tuner cars of the past, such as of the '02s, really were not "drivers" I stressed drivibility to my engine builder. Because he went conservative with the cam and heads, the FAST intake made less HP on the dyno. I wanted something my wife, who is not a car person, could drive and enjoy. The car, with the upgrades, idles at 650 RPM, nice smooth musclecar sound, has a ton of torque (560), and is not a PITA in traffic.
We did not know what to expect sound wise, as we had not heard the car with the 427. At MCACNs I started it several times to move it, and not only did the wife and I like the sound, but several others commented on the quite rumble. IMO, sort of sounds like our '69, nothing harsh, but you know there is something extra under the hood.
The Nickey crew did a great job building the car of my dreams, not only peformance wise, but the little things. As far as I know, my car was the first 2010 with a silver grille (Blue bowtie), and the engine Chevy orange. Both were well received, and I think at least the Silver grille will be showing up on a lot of cars before long.

Rob is exactly right. While many other shops are just bolting stuff together we are actually testing the various components both on the engine and chassis dynos.
You would be surprised at how many of the big name tunners/builders are using Wegner to CNC port their heads and copy the component list we use.
How many 427s were at SEMA? We drove all three of our to the MCACAN show along with the Twin Turbo and some of the other Nickey Cars.

Rob, was the fast intake ported before it was installed? I have seen marginal gains from unported fast setups but ones that have been ported and retuned after the install I have seen huge gains. A local friend of mine with a heads/cam bolt on LS1 trans am picked up 33 rwhp and about 20 ft lbs going from a stock LS6 intake with a ported stock throttle body to a ported fast 92MM intake with matching fast 92MM throttle body.
Is there a victor jr or super victor type intake available now for LS3 heads? I know that these intakes have had pretty good results on LS1s. If they did and it worked well, it would be a much cheaper alternative to a ported fast setup.

Well, we had a chance to play with the 2010 Yenko Camaro today..
Steve and the gang at Nickey Chicago accomplished the impossible. We now have a cool car that is as equally comfortable going to the super market (which Diana did this morning) as it is in full race mode (which the boys tried).
Idles at 650RPM, very slight lope, takes off smooth, shifts as normal, exhaust has a nice deep rumble, not too loud.
When you hammer it, with the new torque converter and program, the auto transmission is awesome. Add the Pedders drag race suspension to the mix, feels really strong. At wide open, the exhaust sound is very musclecar-ish.
Cannot wait for the first test –n-tune.

Dennis, I think most folks, even my family, thought I was kidding when said I wanted the 2010 to be a driver, something that could be driven around town, Well, it was driven (and enjoyed) by all of the Clary women, and we did not have to sacrifice performance to do so, as there are a few black marks around town where the boys were driving
While at his shop, Steve told me there are a couple of other owners of Nickey built cars who are driving theirs on a regular basis. IMO, that is what it is all about, and says a lot about the quality of cars Nickey Chicago turns out.

At this time we only have ONE 50 state emissions legal package, wich carries a C.A.R.B. number(The base TVS2300 Magnuson Stage II S). Everything else is built for "off road use only" and the customer is responsible for emissions compliance in their own State.
We do make every effort to build "green" and efficient engines. The Clary's 427ci runs twin cats and should be able to pass a sniff test.
If I told Rob that they only take about 5 or 6 hp from the rear wheels, he'd probably be out taking them off right now. So don't say anything http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif
