This is supposed to be a M22 transmission from a 1971 Z28. The last six digits matches the VIN of the car. How come it looks like the partial VIN begins with two 7īs ?

Is the engine with the car? If so, what does the engine pad VIN stamp look like? It does look like 2 7's.

This car is very original but was raced in the seventies, and the engine is not the "born with"-engine.

www.nastyz28.com (http://www.nastyz28.com) is the place for 2nd gen q&a

that trans has not been re-stamped if that is what you are asking ...

Iīm pretty sure that is the original trans for that car, but the stamp sure looks odd. Are you saying that itīs a commonly seen "mistake" ?

yes

I think they were trying to stamp ones ( 1 's ):

It does look like they were trying to stamp "1's" and used a 7 at an angle to get the result. I would say those are the original stampings.

How about some more pics of the car.

It was sitting there dusty with the engine out of the car so I didnīt take many pics of it. I was just looking for proof of it being an original M22 Z28 car.

Anders, did you find it on your tour last weekend?

Here is another solid 40.000 miles 1971 Z28 I looked at last weekend. This one now has a LS7 engine backed up by a M22 trans, but the original LT1 and M21 trans is safe on a pallet. I believe the engine, trans, and rearend had never been apart. The original hood is also in safe storage.
It has the one-piece rearspoiler just like the blue one.
That is a New York state inspection certificate from january 1974, in the windshield.

It is, the vins match, the trans is real

the short spoiler was standard in 71, the larger one was optional
