I know this one has been beaten to death. Sure would have been fun if you could really order one this way back in the day.

So the B on the cowl tag is a "typo" by the factory? Oh nevermind.

It actually does look like a typo, otherwise its a very strange and unique combination. The extra digit after the date is odd too. Either somebody had a really bad day back then or....

It just seems odd that this one 70 Nova has a BUNCH of stuff that was supposedly never available on a 70 Nova, L89, 4:10 rear (outside of a Deuce),heavy duty clutch (maybe there is a HD clutch Nova out there.?)"somehow" this guy got all 3 on the same car, remarkable.

The VIN stamp on the trans does not match the one on the engine. The font on the 'O' is different and they should be the same. One of them if not both is not original.

I compared the VIN stamp and Tonowanda stamp to our "real" L78 cars and there is a noticeable difference....

The B in the stamp means the transmission was an M21. (A = M20, C = M22) http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

You would think that if the car had a 4:10 rear end, L/89 motor and a 3-spoke steering wheel why stop at a M-21? I would think that it should have a M-22 to complete the package.

Just something fishy about the wrong interior color combinations (black bench seat, blue interior), plus the mysterious 'O' . That typoed trim tag is more rare than the car itself. Its an L-89, AND it has multiple typo's too? Wow, imagine the odds! This guy needs to play the lotto. Seriously, is it just me, or does something smell fishy?

The VIN stamp on the engine appears wrong, the 10W... is 1OW, subtle, but it should be a zero not a letter. I saw that the rear code is CBW, which is a 4.10:1 code used on the deuces. However, that rear has been hit as well, the CBW stamping on the original cars is very unique - and this one is not even close. The fuzzy POP is interesting! Looks like a Sutliff car, they did get some cool stuff - but this car does not appear to be a legit L89.

Marlin,

Wouldn't a "CBW" indicate a special heat treated ring and pinion? Has there been any other documented examples of special COPO high performance rear ends (CBW, BV) in other than COPO cars? Also, I would have expected that all CBW axles would have been assembled in a few batches in the May (or later) time frame (not March)in anticipation of the Deuce production. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Just by looking at the pictures your car was built a whole lot better than the silver car. If I had to spend that kind of money for a Nova your car would be a better value.

My 69 L78 Nova has what appears to be the original BW rear (4:56) still in it, the cast date/assembly date/patina are right in line with everyting else on the car. The original gears were taken out and I do not have them, but if there is a specific COPO posi case/axel # I will see if it is there

YENKO DEUCE REGISTRY
10-01-2009, 08:54 PM
The CBW rears have the heat treated stuff, but otherwise they are not really that 'special', ie; no special posi unit, clutch pak, springs, plates - none of that stuff that you would find on a 'BE' coded ZL1 rear. So, I believe that the CBW code was unique due to the 4.10:1 ratio going into a '70 Nova - in '69 this application would not have needed a special code (would have probably just been a BV code), but in '70 it was special, and therefore was part of the COPO (most likely #9737, not #9010).
