I could use some help and info on my 67 z that I purchased. This is the information that I have and if anyone has anything else I would appreciate it. My plans are to put the car back to what it looked like in 69 or 70. I would love to find some pictures of the car from indy in 1970 but have not been able to. The paint on the car is probably not salvageable and is from 1972 to 1974. The car was purchased by Joe Burden on June 29 of 67. It was never registered and was used as a drag car since day one. It was raced with its original small block up until he moved from Indiana to Fl sometime in the early 70’s. From what I know he put a BBC and ran the car in 1/8 mile down there until he parked the car in 1974 and hasn’t run since. The original motor was put in a circle track car and blown up. I would like to get in touch with the original owner but have not been able to locate him.

Race History

1970 March Bristol TN AHRA E.T. mile/ hr record
1970 June Warren Michigan NHRA E.T. record 11.07 at 127 mph
1970 Muncie Dragway Indiana 2 gold cup meets won both on Saturday and Sunday
1970 Indianapolis U.S nationals won a 14k bold cup with marble base.

My plans are to put a period correct small block with a nash 5 speed in the car and make it a drag/ cruise night car. I want to paint the car back to its original red with the white stripes. I would like to bring it out to the supercar reunion next year and beat up on some of the fast Yenko’s with low 11 passes.

Ted Harbit might remember the car, as Muncie is in his neighborhood I believe...and depending on what class it ran @ Indy, Barnhart would probably remember it as he was running there.

And it might not be wise to kick a couple of those "sleeping dogs"...you might just get what you ask for...!

LOL...I kinda figured he did, as racers never tip their hand...but providing a winter's worth of motivation sometimes ain't the smartest move either! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I got an NHRA yearbook a while back, that has race winners & event info in it...seems like it was from '55-'70 or thereabouts. I'll try and remember and take a look when I'm back by the shop this evening...

I would contact Jerry MacNeish at Camaro High Performance in Maryland. He does the 67 Z/28 Registery. Maybe the Wenzel Bros. from Michigan area may remember the car. They still run their 1967 Z/28 in NHRA D/S. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

I believe the car was raced as "CHANTILY LACE" at one time early on. Sweet ride http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

I would run the car with the paint that it has. Build a nice 377 and spin the tach for a while.

Its back up and running and will be at MACCN in the barn find section. Cant go faster than 80 or the paint starts to fly off. I think if I made a full pass with it I would have no more paint on the roof and deck lid

Why not build up a 302 like it originally had, that would be very cool.

Eric Jackson is building a very high winding 302. I don't believe it is for a customer.

He does top notch work. Perhaps you can talk him out of it for the right price:

I would really like to see more pics. What suspension mods, etc.?

It has a Dana 60 that was put back in the 70's with mopar superstock springs and no traction bars. The car was minitubbed back in the day. On the front it just has some 90 10 shocks. I'm gonna take it to the track next week again and get some video. A high winding 302 would be nice. I do have one but needs to be rebuilt.

Looked through my old pictures and there it was! Chantilly Lace at Columbus in October '69 at their Fall National Open event. And old Instamatic less than good picture but a picture nevertheless. I can't post but would be glad to send you the picture, I'll be at MCACN and you could buy me a coffee.

Sounds good. I'm gonna need to repaint it and would like to go back to the paint like it was in the late 60's.

Puttin it to that oranage ZL1 clone might be a problem for you, but good luck I like that plan though.

Wowww.... My old car !! Congrats on getting it running !!! I would love to see some wheels up pics !!! I think we may have spoken once actually if I remember.

I was just in my attic a few days ago and I found the old racing jacket Joe gave me that he used back in the day. Did you get the timeslips and pics of Joe with the car that I included when I sold the car? I know I have somewhere the taped interview with him when I sat down one night right before buying the car. I will try and find it, but that I cannot promise. He had some awesome old racing stories.

If you'd like to PM me and send your address, I still have a bunch of original time slips from the car , I'll send them to you with the jacket !! They really belong with the car at this point.

By the way !! He did break into the 10's with the car apparently at some point if I remember the time slips correctly. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/3gears.gif

Wanted that car back when Max had it but it wasn't meant to be. I saw this photo on ebay many months back and finally realized it's the same car. Should have bought the pic but at least I saved the image.
