69-72 A Body Seat Sensor?

Does anyone know what this is? I don't remember seeing one before. They may be on all these seats but I don't remember seeing this. It came off of a 69-72 A body PASSENGER side bucket seat. What is it?

appears to be a pressure sensor, for a seatbelt warning light? Did they have those in 72?

That is what I was thinking. The seat is the passenger side though. I would think it would be a driver's side only thing. Maybe someone switched the tracks during reupholstery? All I have is this one seat.

Is the seat forward adjuster under the righthand side lower bun,or lefthand side lower bun?
Did the vehicle it came out of have power locks?
Looks like part of the briefly seen Optional Electric seatback release,(RPO AQ-2),offered on 1970-71 two door Chevelles & Monte C.
It was always paired up with electric door locks as well.You didn't have to push the seatback release button when wanting to slip into the backseat,just open either door and pull the seatback over.
If that's it,only 663 got it in 1970..195 in 1971.

Try removing the panel off the back of the seat and look for the remaining parts and harness connected to the seatbutton release mechanism/strap & sleeve.It was unique.

Those switches also lit the annoying light on the dash that said "Fasten Seat Belts" if you had a package on the passenger seat.

That was the second, no make that the third thing I disconected, right after I disconnected the seat belt buzzer and the disabled the clutch safety switch. http://www.powwows.com/gathering/images/smilies/notworki.gif

i just parted a 72 elco with the seat belt warning light, and those where in the seats...and it has a wire harness under the carpets too...

the 72's were not supposed to start if there was a front seat passenger without the seat belts on. The annoying thing was that if you had groceries or such on the front seat you couldn't start the car without fastening the seat belt ...

No kidding? I had no idea. That would get very annoying. Would be a good anti-theft device though.

That's the beam-type sensing switch installed in the front seat cushions that was part of the federally-mandated seat belt interlock system that prevented you from starting the car unless the seat belts were fastened. Public outrage finally got to the point that Congress rescinded the law; I remember the night in 1974 that we took it out of production at Lordstown and disabled it on every car on the property that hadn't been shipped yet.
