My &%@!$* Tailgate!

Sorry to go way off topic here but the tailgate on my 2005 Jeep Liberty is driving me crazy! It has an auto lock feature that locks the tailgate when the vehicle exceeds 15 mph. I then forget about it and upon reaching my destination go to open the tailgate, yank on the handle and get rudely reminded that it is locked. Anyone within earshot of me then gets an earful of how much I hate the auto lock. I had the auto lock on the doors AND tailgate of my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee disabled by my dealer but was told the only the auto lock for the doors (which they did for me) can be disabled on the 2005 Jeep Liberty, NOT the tailgate. I find that odd. I took it to another Jeep dealer and they confirmed this.

There's got to be a way to disable this demon. With taking my daughter to sporting events (she's one hell of a high school field hockey player) I'm in and out of the back of the Liberty quite a bit. I don't want to drive everywhere at 14 mph and apparently I'm not on the ball enough to remember to hit the door unlock every time I get out of the vehicle.

Any suggestions?

If you figure out a solution, please post it here. My
son has a 2005 Liberty and whenever I drive it, I go thru
the same thing, except I do'nt drive it often enough to
remember what it takes to unlock it.

I hate the thing at that point and will no longer carry my concealed pistol when I drive it as I'm afraid I'll shoot the d@m thing.

Why would you want to leave the tailgate unlocked? I know a few people who have had bad guys open their car doors and jump inside their car. Criminals do not care if they get in through a side or rear door. But if you really want to disable the feature then disconnect the lock wires inside the gate.

On GM cars I think you can program the unlocking of the doors when trans is put in park, driver's only or all doors. Same deal with the remote, either unlocks driver's only or all depending on what you program. Is that an option on the Jeep?
