Not absolutely sure if the Phillies are really that good or the other teams are really that weak. Rockies closer can't get 1 more out or strike to send it to game 5? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/headbang.gif He just made Brad Lidge look good. Go Phils! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I was worried about their lack of scoring and the bullpen near the end of the season, but they showed they have the same fight in them like last year so that's a good sign! Go Phils!

If the Phils had the capital to do what the Yankees do, they would be accused and criticized just as much as the Yankees. It should be a good series regardless of who Wins the ALCS. As of now there are still two possibilities.

I guess our NY friends must be shocked a little right now. Yanks played pretty poorly. A-Rod looked bad at the plate. I honestly thought the Yankees were better than that. CC started everybody it seemed with a first ball count. This is the World Series, can't do that! Go Phillies.

Gentlemen, might I remind you how the Yankees started the '96 World Series at Yankee Stadium? Down 0-2 heading to Atlanta. This is World Series baseball and even though we'll end in November, I finally smell that October air!

Great game to watch. No way did I think anyone could shut down the Yankee hitters for 9 innings, not only is their lineup loaded, but had been playing very well.

I was glad to see Lee allowed to finish the game, as I was afraid he was going to be lifted. Not only did he deserve to finish, but closers have been known to not close.

Salvatore

Yes, the game was good but the Yankees looked over matched and extremely tight. Tonite is a new game so we shall see. A Rod better kick it in gear. He got beat up by a lefty!

Alex has put the media to shame with his current streak in the 2009 play offs. The guy has one sub-par game out of a stellar ALCS and ALDS and Jonsey believes the Yanks are cursed. Man, when will the guy get any credit?

If you want to rip on a player, blast Nick Swisher. He is one of my favorite players in the league, scrappy, tough, energetic, but hes is slumping bad right now which is a total shame given his great numbers during the regular season.

Ha! How did I know this thread would be brought back...

Gerardi has been going with a 3 man rotation in the post season, like many great Yankee teams in the past have done. He has even said from the start of the season, come playoff time, he will go to the three man rotation.

I questioned whether or not they should have started Chad Godan or Alfredo Aceseves for game five but Gerardi made the right move in AJ. When you start throwing off the rotation it becomes a mental game too.

The Phillie were going to game 5 without question. The mental and physical strain on any team to win three straight road playoff games is too intense when you add up all of the factors. Yes, Sam - AJ was shakey on three days rest but what happened to the Phils in the 7-9th inning of every game thus far? Yankee hits and Yankee runs. Whats going on with that bull pen?

Now you have a well rested, record holding ace in Pettitte who has been a rock for the Yankees all year. The Phillies are going to need some luck. Pedro is going to fold, much like Ryan Howard has the entire post season. He seems to be following the model of A-Rod circa 2007 and current day Mark Teixeira.

It will be a brawl in the BX and I cannot wait for tonight. Best of luck to your team gents.

-Dan

Well Dan, I think the Yankees are a little more nervous that the Sillies. If the Yanks don't win I hope Joe G's job is not in jepordy. I like him! I don't think Andy is as well rested as he should be. Pedro, well who knows. I think the bottom of the Phils line up may be a tad stronger. Johnny Damon and Mariano Rivera are the main men right now it seems. I was just surprised that they didn't beat on Cliff Lee a little earlier. He was not as good as the first game and was a little tired in my opinion. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif Jobba Chamberlin has to step up also. And YES, Start the games at 7:05. I bet not many, if any are watching east of the Mississippi.

Nah Sam, the Yankees gave the Phillies game 5 so that they could win at home tonight in their new stadium--selling another 50,000 tickets at what, $100 apiece? Win it at home, have a huge party at home, make that much more money on game 6 ticket sales (and Yankees Team Store sales). It's a business FIRST, and it's a sport SECOND. Having said that, I hope the Phillies are energized and can force a game 7 and then win the series.

I think the extra delay was because of that stupid "World Classic" they played in the summer that stopped MLB for a week or 2. I hate that they are playing this late in the season, but go Phils! We went to game 4 and the place went crazy when Feliz hit the homerun to tie it. Then it looked like Lidge had Damon struck out but was a foul tip. Then it got ugly!

My bad, I now think the "World Classic" was earlier during spring training. I still think that pushed the season back a couple of days.

Thats right Dog, its in everything. But honestly the big money players didn't seem to have that much impact. The Phillies beat CC when he was with Milwaukee making way less and AJ won just one game and A-Rod wasn't knocking anybody dead in my book. They pitched well and got some timely hits. Mariano Rivera is worth whatever he wants. He has been doing what he has been doing since what 1993 or so. Derek Jeter is another gamer. He has been doing this all his career. So maybe the big bucks didn't mean as much this time. If you want to put it like that.....the big bucks guys ruined the car hobby too. 30- 40 years ago when this was for the average working guy the big bucks guys were boating, hunting or riding horses. They were not changing oil in the Z/28's, SS nova's, Mach-1's or their 440 6 barrel cudas. When I was pumping gas back in the 60's they rode by the station and laughed. Now since owning a musclecar is the in thing to do/have they are into them also. So big bucks is in everything, its just how you personally handle it! It was a good series. CC didn't win either game he pitched and AJ got shelled in his 2nd game. It's a shame the Phils pitchers had so many injuries during the season and caught up with them in the end. I'm still amazed they made it this far with all those injuries. Hopefully they'll be back next year.
