Story is the original buyer somehow didn't order a 4 speed, and the three speed is the standard trans offering, just like all other GM cars except L78s,L72's, Zs etc. With a bench seat, they put it on the column. I have the correct column floor shift ring, as well as a correct Nova bench seat shifter with new box and rods.

I had a 3 speed 69 Camaro L78 but it was a floor shift

The black '66 Acadian Post car we all here looked at last year on Bay was and still is an original L79 3-Tree car too..

I used to have a '69 427 L36 390hp Impala SS with factory HD three speed on the tree with a factory console shifter delete plate. Yes, I still have a copy of the build sheet, but sold the car in 1990.

Wow...that is a cool combo. I would put it back to the column shift..

Rare, but desirable? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Desirable to Charley, it would appear. Kind of like odd colors or other weird option combos, it would appeal to seasoned collectors who have already had a Marina Blue 4sp SS and want to venture off the beaten path a little. Someone like... Charley:)

FWIW, If it was a "keeper", I'd restore it with the 3 on the tree too. If I knew I had to flip it before too long, I suppose the 4sp would get the nod. Either way, it will be a neat car when its done.
