thanks guys/the car did look real nice before but it suffered from more ripples than a bag of chips.i couldnt take it.it is real close to getting painted.im thinking a nice silver/i welcome any input .
I did a silver that was a Mercedes Silver mixed with a Viper silver and added metallic flakes. I had it painted on my '68 Dodge Charger. I like Silver and it looked marvelous!

I think it looks Awesome. It's not like you disturbed a piece of history with a 327 PG Camaro donor. I always vote for LeMans Blue but I don't think you'd go wrong with Black either. Good luck and show more pictures as you move along! Ed http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Looks like a cool project to me. I can appreciate a well built car whether it's a stock restored musclecar or a custom PT style car. I'm not too big on going too far over the top though. Mods that make the car run better, handle, better, stop better, more comfortable, etc. are all part of the fun.

I can appreciate anything that's done well, and so far it looks pretty cool.

I just posted this question on another site and have not gotten an answer.
"Can someone give me a definition of just EXACTLY what a Pro Touring car is? I see the term tossed around but don't know where it came from and if there is a real definition."
To me, it is just another name for "street rod." Smoothing, frenching, shaving body parts, upgraded suspension, drivtrains, adding options, custom paint. What is the difference? Just the fact that people are doing it to muscle cars that most people already think are pretty cool
rather than cars from the 20-50s?
Since what you are doing this to a plain Jane low power Camaro that they made thousands of, go for it. If you were doing it to a hipo big block I would be unhappy.
I love all old muscle cars. I don't get into the paint daub, cosmoline, every original sticker type of resto. I paint suspension parts and other under car parts with the idea of keeping them looking fresh but not with the idea of winning a car show. I drive my cars.
I like the term "RestoMod." Restored/modified. I like the F.A.S.T. race venue. Something that looks pretty much stone stock with hidden performance modifications. I like it a step further with hidden modern upgrades like sound systems, power windows, A/C, etc. The things that make these cars more pleasurable to drive more often, as I have become spoiled with my newer drivers. However, I wnat the car to look stock to the casual observer and not like something that belongs in a street rod show.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE street rods too (in the traditional sense) I just don't want to see it on an original muscle car.

Yeah, unfortunately that is true.
I am hoping that they start that venue here in the southwest. I have spent over $11k on my 69 six pack Super Bee 523 stroker engine with F.A.S.T. in mind. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif

It depends on who you ask since there isn't anything written in stone on this subject.
You could say that Pro touring is the modern way of Hot rodding. We take a 40 year old car, throw in a modern drivetrain with a lot of power (some times to much) and make it handle better on the road. Pretty much the same as what the hot rodders did in the fifties.
Then you can go in to details. Some say that they have a PT-car just because it has a set of 18" wheels with low profile tires. I don't agree with this. It has to be the following:
1. Modernized drivetrain with power, not necessarily LS-type engines.
2. Heavy Duty brakes 13" discs or more in front. Discs in rear.
3. Because of the large discs you have to have large wheels.
4. Upgraded suspension and lower stance.
5. Modernized and comfortable interior, pretty much like a new car here. Air Condition, Good Audio and quiet inside.
6. Optional to this definition is the bling, the PT-trend has moved toward more bling in the recent years. Just like the street rodders.
Look at Charleys cars, the Mule and Jackass. That is true Pro touring cars without all the expensive bling parts. Who really needs hood hinges that cost $800.00?
And for those of you that don't already know it, I am a BAD boy. I have destroyed a true X77 Z/28 and turned it into a Pro Touring car. I have got flak for it over the years but I don't care. It is my car and we don't need one more over restored 69 Z/28 on the streets http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif

I like it to a point. I think it is becoming to overly used and unfortunately people have put it on everything from camaros to neons. Like I said, I like it on cars such as Charley Lillards Jackass and the Mule but I have a feeling that sooner or later it will turn to a fad like the old PRO STREET did. I hope not but we shall see http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Pro touring cars will live on and get used as most have street manners. Pro Street died because the cars were cool but 99% of them did not drive well on the street for any distance.
as for cutting up cars, we probably lost more real cars in the pro street movement than the pro touring guys.

IMO, the Dynacorn bodies are what ought to be used for Pro touring and Pro street. Leave the original Camaro bodies for enthusiasts guys who care about originality and customize to your heart's content on a Dynacorn body.

It is my understanding that there have been some changes for the better on these bodies since they first came out. BTW, you apparently didn't live through the 60s-70s to see what kind of shape NEW sheet metal from the auto manufacturers arrived in.
As far as a V.I.N. there are several different ways to get on those bodies including a State issued one. Thes bodies are probably the best starting point for a good clean, rust free body for on of these cars.

Keep doing what you are doing. I think it will be cool when you done. Money saved too vs. that repop shell of a car.

The car in question here was not ruined. Its been given a new lease on life. Leave the poor guy alone. He is building a car he wants to enjoy. Isn't that the idea of a hot rod? So who cares he doesn't want to build a numbers matching 327/210hp PG auto Camaro? He wants to drive a cool Camaro, let him build away! I bet he'll drive it more than you drive your "show car."

A new lease on life? Did you see the condition of the car prior to the new work being done? I didn't see it as something crying out in need of attention. An honest opinion was asked for and an honest opinion was given.
