Hey all. Trying to assist a friend on a long distance deal. He made the mistake of buying first, and asking questions later.

He purchased what he thought was a 69 Camaro Pace Car, 396 / 375 HP 4 speed. As he was giving me the details, he mentioned the engine suffix was KA. I remember years ago, the books always listed the KA as special high performance. The books today now show the KA as a 350 HP with heavy duty clutch. Sources and books I have state the KA suffix was reserved for heavy duty clutch application but none were ever installed. Might this older restoration have a bogus KA stamp that was never used ?? Any thoughts on a KA stamp on this car. He is supposed to forward a photo of the stamp. Camaros are not my thing, so I need a little help.

Just got more info. Casting date on the side of the block reads I 19 8 Stamped assy date is T0305 Seems like a long time to me.

Thanks

Tom

Restamp...YIKES! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

That shows to be a March 05 (69) stamp date.

With an I-19-8 casting date...

Way too early to be in a PACECAR!

No one know for sure but the estimates of 396 stick shifts are around 200, some says more some says less.

All I know we got three or four of them over here.

From http://www.camaros.org/69pacer.shtml#replica:
There is no documentation of the number of big block pace cars that were produced. The author estimates the percentage of 396 pace cars as between 15-20%, or approximately 550 to 735 cars.
