Hi guys--

Just wanted your opinion on this. I'm thinking about selling my MQ code COPO engine to help me finish my 442 resto sooner rather than later.

I was going to put it in my Camaro that is still waiting to be restored. Seeing as the engine really belongs in a 4-speed Chevelle, I'm thinking it might be a good idea to let it go to a proper home and then pick up another engine when I'm ready to roll with the Camaro.

I also started toying with going with an L78 engine in the Camaro instead of a 427.

Your input on this would be appreciated.

Thanks. You guys are the best. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Has the date and code stamp. Does not have a VIN #. I'll check the date code when I get home and can look at my paperwork.

Albert, I just sent you a PM. Is that a coincidence? If not, that's pretty incredible.

I guess Albert is at home relaxing in front of the tv. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

An interesting thing about 6/27/1969. If my memory is correct, my parents got married on Saturday, June 14, 1969. This means, my engine block was stamped on a Friday. Could explain the lack of VIN stamp. I'm fairly positive it's never been decked and is not a restamp. Obviously not certain, but could explain things. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

If my grandfather were still with us, I could ask him what the heck they were doing in the plant on a Friday. I'm sure he'd have some wisecrack about that. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

The L78 will run as good as your 427 IMO. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

OK..got a little excited there for a moment..first of all..I raced M22 MIkes L-78 at the reunion..that "little" L-78 runs pretty damm good!! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif..but cubic inches never hurt http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif..as for the motor..to say I would be a interested party is a under statement http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif and even though the motor was built on a friday..VIN was stamped later at/on the assembly line..Id love to know if there are any cylinder repairs/sleeves..Im pretty sure my motor sucked a valve from the parts ordered on the warranty repair order..PM has been sent as well..Im OK with whatever you decide to do

Haha. No problem, Albert. I too am excited for you. I guess these things happen, but never to me. haha.

Well, I definitely figured the L72 would be a little more impressive than the L78. As all I know about my Camaro is that it was a BB car, I thought that at least the L78 MIGHT have been a possibility to have gone in it. But, at the end of the day, if you don't know for sure, what does it really matter. I'll probably just do the car up as I'd like.

PM sent.

Al,
The 627MQ seems to be a late run of long block assemblies without vin stamping. I have one also and have heard of a few over the years.

Al,
I was wondering myself, if your motor was gone when you got the car. How do you know what engine build date (T 06 27 MQ) you need?

Jim if you read the first post on this page Al says he has a dealer repair order with a tracing of the pro tecto plate on it.
