My source for OEM style 7/16-20 acorn lug nuts as used on the Chevelle and Camaro SS wheels has dried up. Does anyone have a source for correct style nuts? I need two complete sets ASAP. Thanks in advance.

I can't help you Rick, but will be following this thread as well. I get asked this question every so often by fellow Chevelle Club members.

Rick,
May I assume you are looking for ORIGINAL 69-7???? Lug Nuts as pictured below.
FYI, Ames Perf Pontiac sells repops of the 2nd design
short crown nut.
Ive seen very few Camaros with ORIGINAL 1st design lug nuts, and most owners dont know the difference...

Chuck,
Do you know when GM changed to the newer design? My 69 SS Chevelle has the original design as noted in your photos above. I've seen other low mile 69 SS Chevelles that had the newer design though. Any thoughts?

GM was using the second design on some of their full size trucks until the 1988s came out.

I would be happy with either of the two styles posted. I did get a call late yesterday from another member who was gracious enough to not only help me to locate them but will also hand deliver them to me. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif However, I do need more. He stated that Larry Patten sells these so I will check a couple more sources including Larry and AMES. Thanks for all the help.

Check with your local GM dealer. They were used on the earlier '80s full sized trucks with the rally wheels. Our '78 4X4 had them. You never know what GM still has in stock. It sometimes takes a good parts guy to find the stuff.

A nice care package just arrived FedEx from Ground Up and they are pretty damned close. Between them and Larry I think I am covered for the time being. Thanks to Chris, Larry, Ground Up and everyones help! I hate last minute details.... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Rick, I'd sure like too know what GROUND UP sent you, relative to my above picture.
The Camaro owners would be ecstatic, if somebody was repopping the ORIGINAL 1st design lug nuts.
I do not know when G.M. changed over to 2nd design on this lug nut, keeping same part number.
I also would like to buy any survivor lug nuts someone might have...(After Rick of course)
Thanks,

Unfortunately they are the second design but the best I have found so far.

I checked my stash. I have several sets of the newer style lug nuts.
My 1998 Airstream trailer also used lug nuts with SS caps on it. I replaced them this summer but still have them so I will check to see what style they were.

As owners, tire stores destroyed the stainless steel jackets with impact wrenches, etc, it is quite rare to find originals that survived. I would imagine even the wrecking yards back in the day, tossed these in with the scrap after removing wheels.
At the Muscle Car Nationals LOOK at the Lug Nuts on Charlie's Z and the Black/Stripe Delete COPO Z. (Both unusual rare,70 Z-28's, 1st time displayed at any major show)
Just my .02
I was at the salvage yard other day and found a bunch of the second design style (in very good condition) laying on the ground. Naturally, I picked em up and put em in my pocket.
These are same style that came on later camaro's like my 80 with rally wheels.
