Back in 1966 Chevrolet produced one of the fastest small compact autos in existence weighing approx 2850 lbs packed with there Hot 350HP 327 cubic inch RPO CODE L79 with a 12 bolt & 4 speed. This special engine combination used a hydraulic camshaft that would idle smooth but a whack of the throttle thru all the gears would make a very impressive ET slip. In fact famed Grumpy Jenkins used this same type of car & motor to set NHRA stock records and winnings throughout the Drag Racing Industry. Now one of these types of cars is up for sale out of my own private collection in its true original form including the original engine & driveline from the assembly plant in Norwood. I can call this 1966 L79 Nova a survivor except it has had 1 top coat of Ermine White paint over its original ermine color from all the body edges out. The jambs, trunk, cowling, motor compartment, underside, etc still retain the correct collectables dream of the original patina paint. This highly collectable fully Documented Nova with Protecto Plate, original car invoice signed by the purchaser March 15 1966 with trade in allowance & options also other docs included is what really makes this car a true investment, no stories attached just pure pedigree facts & data. This car really had no comfort options other than a push button am radio & a tinted windshield. The real options were a 3.31 rear gear, L79 350HP motor package w/4speed tranny, f-41 suspension, all stuffed in a Sport Coupe with a bench seat & cloth interior, now that seems like the ingredients to be a wicked fast street/strip car back in 66. This Nova was purchased out of Rapid City Chevrolet S.D. (South Dakota) and lived a lot of its life in the western area till the time I took ownership. There are no signs of rust or detectable evidence of any body repair or collision that I can find. This car seems like its entire life has been stored in climate controlled environments including owners that saw the value in its original unmolested shape. The odometer reads in the high 87,000 witch to me seems right on the money. There is so much originality to this car it is just awesome to spend time looking at everything. Through many years of hunting down one of these rare Sport Coupes with the original L79 seemed like it would never exist. I would come across many Nova cars and stories that some would explain that they had a true L79 Nova and in most cases they were incorrect or the original engine was destroyed so a replacement from that era was installed. Please enjoy the attached several photos of this car with detail areas that we all like to see before upon viewing in person. I am asking 61.000.00 for this car & very aware not many exist in this condition and originality. There was a very low production count on the sport coupes equipped the way this one is I believe less than 1900. This car can be viewed by appt only the week Nov19-22 thru the Muscle / collector car show in Rosemount IL for anybody coming in for that show, I live about 45 minutes north of the Stevenson facility. I also will be at the event that weekend displaying some other cars of my own. I can be reached on my cell 847-867-8676 JODY SCHMEISSER

WOW - Best unrestored or restored L79 Sport Coupe ever!!

66 L79 #'s published are - 5,481 total built
majority - 3,547 were SS, only 1,734 ( 31%) were sport coupes.
Beautiful car, with great colors and paperwork. Can't be many ,if any, left in this unmolested condition..

Lately I have been thinking about selling my COPO since I never seem to find the time to restore it. And this Nova is just the type of car I would buy if I had that kind of money in my pocket. Going from Dover white to Ermine white, and from 427 to 327 would be pretty cool, wouldn´t it?

I would love to have this car! The big news in 1966 was "Hey, you can buy a little Chevy II now with the high-horse Corvette motor already in it now!" Chevrolet really built a neat car with these things. That one-year only air cleaner, factory aluminum intake, the most narrow 12-bolt ever factory installed, lots of neat parts on these cars. Good luck with the sale.
