Was there ever an option to have manual disc brakes on 69 Camaros? SS L78, L89 and L72 cars. Thanks.

Can an ss or COPO cars be ordered with front drum brakes. Are there any exceptions or "weird" cars out there.

Basically the issue is we don't want run a Power Brake booster J52, and to make the car "legal" to race rules are stating we have to.

The two 69 cars in question are a SS L89 and a COPO

It would also be to your advantage to run drum brakes that can be adjusted for no drag vs. the constant drag of the discs.

also was less weight with the front drums.

We have wilwood brakes on it now. If I can prove a car came without the booster then it will let us run without one. Or if you could get the manual drums in the front then we wouldn't have to run one. As we are allowed as per the rules to upgrade the brakes.

Power front discs were included with Camaro SS equipment, required with COPOs 9560 & 9561.

From a reliable source, SS cars could be ordered with manual drum brakes but all COPOs had PWR brakes.

Front drums were available on 68's but not on 69's.

Actually this site is probably the most reliable source you can find anywhere, and these guys are correct... there were definitely no copo OR SS cars with drum brakes in 69. I know of no exceptions.

Very reliable on the 69 info, from this site actually. It wasn't normal but it was possible. NO COPO's (DAMN) but the SS yes. I need an example.

We just got sold of a SS396 Chevelle ordered without disc.

I need an example too... I've never seen a documented factory "disc brake delete" SS Camaro OR Chevelle in 69. Front power disc brakes were mandatory options on both.

Your info source isn't good - you'll look a long time for an example. It was not possible. All Camaro SS's included J52 in 69. There was no way to delete it. http://www.camaros.org/suspen.shtml#Brakes

69 Chevelle - I think that's a different story...
