Anybody know for positive if the 1111499 distributor as used on the L72 9561 was a single point or dual point unit.

Single point. Same unit for T400 L34 & all L78.

I don't think that GM had used dual point distributors for a few years before '69. I've never heard of anything but the 499 distributor in the '69 L78 and COPO cars and that's all that is shown in the parts books. You could get an electronic ignition in Vettes back as early as about 1966. Delco-Remy had a CD ignition kit that you could add and it used the points as the trigger. I put one of these setups on our 427. The car started at -32F so I guess it helped. If this doesn't help, I hope that it is at least entertaining.

Yep, its always a BIG relief when you go out at 4 a.m. and the car starts in -35f weather.

-----I cant remember, offhand, any big-block engine that was ever delivered with a dual-point distributor. Can anyone else???.......Bill S

I don't think Chevrolet sold any cars with dual points after 1962. The last were Corvettes and 409's.

I wouldn't have gone out the door in that weather either, but the wife is/was the dedicated type and would always try to get to work. I can just picture Tom's teeth chattering and knees knocking. One of my biggest regrets in life was driving the car in the winter salt. It took its toll on the body. Over all, it was the most reliable car that I have ever owned and not because it was babied. I think guys were still putting aftermarket dual point distributors in their cars will into the '70s. Mine always worked fine with the old '499 distributor so never saw the point in changing. I think John is right about the '62 Vette and 409 dual point setup.
