Geez Dan, why don't you guys leave a few 69 L78 Chevelles around for the rest of us http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hi Dan, I'm currently stripping my Garnet Red 300 down to bare bones so it can go on a rotisserie. While the body is being done, I'll be doing the frame, etc. I hope I can lean on you for advice, considering how many of these L78/post cars you've done!

Wow, I havn`t heard from both (Don and Barry) Canadian L78 Post Owners in the same thread since our SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Gathering.
Nice to hear from you Barry. I`ll send you a pm.
Dan.

anybody know why this SS396 badge over the glove box door seems to be from a 68 chevelle. Or was it an early build car that might have gotten a leftover one? I've seen the car myself and it appears to be original and not tampered with.

Dan, That can not be correct! That is a 68 emblem. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

Interesting! It likely IS original. I noticed a similar thing on the white 69 sYc Chevelle at SCR... spoke to the owner, who wasn't even aware it was a '68 piece (I should note it is a '68 Malibu spear, not the SS396 type as the one above) He said it was original to the car, and when we looked through the pre-restoration photos, and indeed it always had a 68 Malibu script above the glovebox. Ironically, I leafed through the old '69 SSDI issue with the Yenko Chevelle road test, and that car also had a 68 emblem on the dash...evidently they used up some '68 stock during the '69 production year.

Joe, I just want to get this correct. You think they crossed stock from one model year to another? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

My old 68 SS 396 Chevelle had that EXACT dash strip....

This is exactly why I posted these pictures to begin with.
We do believe it is original to the car. This is the second one I have seen like this. I believe Joe Barr is correct.
Grady,
Perhaps this is the same reason your 1969 COPO Chevelle did not have "Ribbed" rear ash trays? They ran out of stock on the assembly line http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Dan, what is the build date/plant on that car? If that is an original script then it would make sense to it being a very early production car.

I owned a 69 Chevelle Malibu convertible that came with the `68 design dash plaque also. It was built in April of `69 and it had to be the original piece as the whole car was untouched.

Hi Dan,
Is this car still in waiting or is it restored now?
Triple black L78, hard to argue with that combo.

Can't wait........
By triple black do you mean with a black vinyl top? (10-B, 756)
(I have seen a few guys call a triple black car one that is black top and bottom (10-10) with a black interior (756).

Ryan,
This L78 car was born, Black Top and Bottom (10-10) and Black Bucket seat interior. NO Vinyl Top, sorry for the confusion. We are going with one change, we are going with a complete RED Bucket Seat Interior. Red GUTS <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

Hi Dan,
How do you reply so your reply is inside the previous post?
PS: If you need help bolting this one together I will work for free. (I'm a Millwright, an Electrical Maintenance Tech, and generally opposed to scratching beutiful new paint) The commute may suck.....<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/flag.gif
