I talked to one of the people involved in setting up the Cities and Route for the Power Tour.......He said that Bristol was the only city they dealt with that did "Not" offer an incentives to the Power Tour...They ended there last year because the logistics and the Venue there made the most sense.......But....He also stated that it would "Not" start there in 2010 because of the un-willingness of the city to deal with them.......With all the money the tour brings with it, you would think they would jump thru hoops to get their City as a Route stop....That's why it won't start there next year....
We have all our rooms booked for next year.. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

While on the subject, I will ask the same question I asked last year and never got an answer...

Has there ever been a Hot Rod Power Tour where the weather was dry the entire duration?

You can bet it won't be coming thru the desert southwest in the middle of summer http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif

Power Tour up the Pacific Coast Highway would be really http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Thanks, Ken...although I have never participated, it always seemed to me like there was rain a substantial portion of the time http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif Glad to hear there was at least once that it was dry.

Bill, it did stop in Phoenix quite a few years ago originating out of So-Cal
They stopped around 3 o'clock at Firebird Raceway and about 110 degrees, afterwords the survivors said no more "Phoenix" in late June.
Particapants and cars had major meltdowns....it was a disaster.

Ken, what kind of incentives were they looking for?

I think they ask to be paid. If they bring 1000 cars to your town for the night that equals at least 1000 hotel rooms rented. Also most of those people buy gas, go out to dinner etc.

Is there a firm listing of venues yet? One place says Beech Bend in Bowling Green and another mentions an Airport.

Seattle to San Diego down the coast highways..

Salt Lake City to Chicago or Cleveland/Norwalk through Spearfish SD

as far as Bristol, Power Tour didn't do their homework, had they gone next door to Kingsport for festivities they probably would have scored BIG. When I did events at Bristol, they (the city) didn't want to do squat... however, Kingsport was a HUGE help, and were absolutely great to work with...
