My son-in-law and I just brought home a project 1967 Camaro convertible that I believe is a Pace Car. The trim tag reads 67-12667 with 732-Z trim and C-1 paint, options are 2LG, 3L, 4P Trim tag date is 04B. It's got to be a pace car, doesn't it?

Not necessarily. Lots of white convertibles with blue deluxe interiors were not Pace cars. Its made during the right time that theres the possibility that its a pacecar, but theres more info on that tag that needs to be mentioned. Got a picture of the tag?

Didn't Pace cars have a 0-1 on the tag?? I thought they were a brighter white.

O-1 pace cars have clear coat and were festival cars. C-1 cars are non track festival cars.

The O-1 cars were not clear coated. Chevrolet did not have the facilities to do that.
It's likely to be a pacer with those colors. The VIN and tag will help tell for sure.

Thanks for the feedback - I got a PM re what to look for to assure that it's a "blue nose" Pace Car versus a "black nose" RS/SS. It does have the dash after the 4P - so apparently a Pace Car. Also has a perfect 3/16" hole in the trim tag right by the "P" in the "4P" area - don't know what that's all about. The guy that I bought it from had no idea - he was making it into a resto mod - putting a big block into it. We'll probably continue with his plan.

The guy who had the car is really into street rods, so he had no idea that this car was a pace car. He got it to the point where it's ready for epoxy primer and paint. He lost his job, needs cash....you know the story. We are removing all of his bolt on modifications. It'll look pretty stock & the paint will be correct. I have a 396 with an M21 bolted to it that's sitting here ready to go, also have correct BB radiator, brackets, pulleys, etc. Most of my parts are big block - so finishing it as a big block is easy & no extra $$..

We actually dropped the car off at the body/paint shop - so it's not at my house to photograph right now (just got a foot of snow). I'll try to get over there next week & post pics then.

The resto is well underway. I do have a question for you gurus though. The motor/trans that I'm using can be seen below - question - is the comp plus shifter going to interfere with an original '67 Camaro console?
Also - better chack to see if any of these parts "belong" in any member's cars before I install them in this car. #272 block (2 bolt "JU" with partial viv #161 at the filter bowl). Trans #010 with vin 6Z117134, build date P1130.

nope thats the one, only deal is and I dont see it on yours the bottom bolt on some let it rotate front to back if that makes sense, its nice as it lets you center the shifter in the slider on the console as sometimes when getting 1st or 3rd you can bottom out in the slider and start to chip the chrome on the shifter and the console insert and also helps to get it where it fits you...just right for that 1-2 grab http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif
ps, hows your mental well being doing so many cars at once http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif

Thanks Bud, FYI - I'm semi-retired and working on cars is like therapy. I really enjoy it. If I did it for a living I'd probably hate it, but I don't have to be in any hurry. These will probably be my last cars though (famous last words). My garage is full.

The 67 shifter is a bit different. The 68-9 shifter will work with some massaging if I remember correctly. I think the trouble is when going into reverse.

I have a real '69 shifter handle that has been drilled for a newer comp plus shifter. maybe I should put that on?

sorry but Jason is not right on this one, there the same shifter 67,8,9. they rub from not being centered in the hole like I said, '67 consoles are unique and tight, if your tight on the left, its because the trans is left on the mounts, loosen up the trans push it hard to the pass side and have the other guy tighten it down, if thats not enough do the same to the cross member. thats what makes '67s so cool when you get it right and the slider glides back and forth as you row through the gears http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Also, does anyone have info/techniques on getting old horns to work? This discussion may belong in a different catagory - but they are the horns to this car.

The contact points are rusted together. Unscrew the little adjuster nut and then spray a lot of wd40 in there and let it soak in. Then replace the screw and hook the terminal to 12 volts and ground the bracket. If no horn sound yet, start whapping the horn with a wooden mallet repeatedly until the contacts break loose. You'll know when the repair is successful when your wife starts yelling at you...or when the horn noise drowns out your wife yelling at you.

I soaked them with WD and put the adjusting screw back in. If the contacts are stuck together, should I get a spark when I hook up the 12 volts? I get no spark, no humm, no nothing. Waddya think - keep beating?????? Then send the pieces to the restorer?

First off take a Ohm meter set at R1 and see if the coil still has a continuity. Terminal blade to case. If it is open, quit trying.
I have had very limited luck with the WD 40 thing, even the ones that started working sounded like crap, and the adjuster screw has very limited affect.
I have taken some appart and installed new diaphrames, however if the contacts are junk it still may not work well. Also rust can cause the plunger on the diaphram to get stuck.
From what you have done so far it sounds like it is Horn Works time, he does a great job too.
